Commercial Description:
This dark amber wheat beer features fruity and spicy aromas galore. Significant strength underlies the pleasant citric appeal of this bock beer. Redolent with the flavors of harvest fruit, Moonglow typifies the traditional weizenbock-style so thoroughly enjoyed throughout Bavaria. Left unfiltered, its unique yeast strain gives Moonglow a radiance all its own.

4/1/08 notes: bottle. Appearance is a muddy-apricot amber-orange with visible clumps. Virtually no head, thin lacing. Aroma is a unique combo of wheat, yeast, malt, ripe apricot, citrus, caramel, and other spices. Taste is magnificent: a blend of ommegang’s spicy coriander-orange peel, yeast, rich malts, and other fruit. Very impressive. Finishes smooth and semi sweet which lingers in your mouth just the right length. I found this beer simultaneously refreshing, unique, and complex. Great job Victory!

12 oz bottle

I picked up a single of this since it has been a while since I have tried a weizenbock. Because of that I was looking forward to giving this a try. Coming from Victory my expectations were met in the form of a solid well made beer. I don’t know if I would pick up a six pack but having a few bottles around might be nice.

Aroma / Appearance - A short lived beige head graced a caramelized fluid body with hints of caramel, chocolate, topioca pudding and butterscotch. It reminds me of a dessert tray.

Flavor / Palate - Dry apple cider spiked with a hint of caramel filled the mouth. The overall impression was of Wurther’s hard candy. The biggest flaw was that towards the end it became cloying. Other than this small weakness it is solid and enjoyable.

Notes from an on tap experience about a year and a half ago: "Victory moonglow: pumpkin, banana, clove, sweet malt and wheaty yeast nose, tiny hint of abv towards the finish, very sweet, smooth, and sticky palate, starts very bocky and ends hefey..."

Pours a translucent brown in color with plenty of "chunkies" floating around in the beer. Very nice inch and a half of frothy beige head. This looks nice. Smell is spice and yeast. There’s some definite spice in the taste as well, but I just can’t seem to put my finger on it right now. Crisp and smooth on the mouthfeel. Plenty of lemon zest in the flavor as well. This would be an incredible spring time, beer garden beer on draft! Enjoyable!

12 oz. bottle pours a ruby orange red with a finger of off white frothy head that leaves sparse lacing as it dissipates. Aroma is spicy corriander with citrus and warm notes of pomegranate. Front palate is yeasty warming to a spicy raisin bread in the middle and finishing with caramel malts. More complex than I expected it to be. Another good beer by Victory. Paired nicely with spicy turkey tacos and stood up to them well.

Shared with HogTownHarry, Harrys bottle! Thanks Harry! Pours a muddy brown, tan colour with zero head. Aroma: Raisens and port, nuts and malt. Flavour: Mild alcohol flavour, some slight bitterness there too, a hint of toffee and spice, nutmeg. Short finish. Not a bad brew at all (my face is flushing due to it though!) Thanks Harry!

Bottle (12oz). Shared with garthicus, via trade with goldtwins. Murky brick red with a small off-white head. Really like that aroma - dry, musty wood bitterness, yeast and muted sweet caramel malt and cocoa. Taste - same, sweeter with dry mocha, still woody and leafy, tartness creeps in to the malt in the finish. Thin but chewy body, lightly acidic and carbonated, it tapers off a tad as it finishes, but quite tasty.

12oz bottle, purchased from Consumers Beverages in Buffalo (I think). Best before date of August 08. Pours a cloudy murky brown. Nice spicy and yeasty aroma. The mouthfeel is tingly upfront before giving way to the typical warm weizenbock flavours - though it feels less fulfilling than, say, an Aventinus.
