Commercial Description:
This dark amber wheat beer features fruity and spicy aromas galore. Significant strength underlies the pleasant citric appeal of this bock beer. Redolent with the flavors of harvest fruit, Moonglow typifies the traditional weizenbock-style so thoroughly enjoyed throughout Bavaria. Left unfiltered, its unique yeast strain gives Moonglow a radiance all its own.

Bottled Aug O5. Pours hazy reddish brown with tan diminshing head. Wonderful fruity aroma of banana and cherry lifesavers. Flavor of dark wheat malt, citrus, and a hint of caramel. Alcohol is well hidden, though I pick up a tad amount in the otherwise sweet and yeasty finish. I can’t believe how well this held up. This is a great domestic wheat beer. I am a fan of Victory, but this one really surprised me, as I am really picky about my wheat beers.

Bottle courtesy of jjpm74. Thanks John! Bottled on Aug 25.05. Poured a hazy brown with a big tan head that settled quickly. Sweet fruity aroma with banana, raisin, and cherry picked out. A sweet dark fruit flavor with spices and hint of malts. Medium thick body. Very enjoyable!!

12oz bottle - pours a rich, hazy mediun brown with a very creamy, three finger tan head, that hangs around a long time. Aroma is full of sweet malt, dark fruit and clove. The taste is nicely complex, with an array of sweet fruit, malt and caramel. There are also very subtle hints of several spices that were hard for me to ID. The alcohol comes to the front now and then but in a nice way. Mouthfeel is a bit fizzy but rich and smooth as well. Aftertaste is long and offers some notes of yeast and sweet malt. This is a very nice, easy drinking beer, even with a fairly high dose of alcohol. I like it!

This is a unique German beer style, that is a wheat bock. This style of beer is very similar to dunkle hefeweizen, in that it is an ale, it is brewed with a significant portion of wheat malt, along with some dark malts, and it is bottle conditioned. The yeast strain used in this beer, is the Weihenstaphan strain, which is used in brewing classic Bavarian hefeweizen. Where it differs is that it has the alcohol strength of a bock beer, around 7-8% abv. Moonglow pour to a murky deep caramel color with a huge, thick, rocky head, and a very lively carbonation. The nose is superb on this beer. Aromas of clove, banana, and ripe fruit marry with sweet malt aroma, and peppery waves of alcohol. The palate is very complex with just layers of flavor. Sweet malt, a touch of caramel, pear, perhaps, some melon, and subtle hints of spice all slide over the tongue. This beer finishes with more good malt flavors up front, then ends with that classic spicy clove/bubble gum yeast character that is signature of the Weihenstaphan strain. This is an outstanding domestic example of a classic German beer style.

Bottle from Slob Thanks!
Pours a rich, cloudy cola-brown with a frothy cream head. Aroma is thin and spikey, with hints of wheat, yeast, and malt. Flavor is a rush of pear, spice, and a bit of citrus/honey in the finish. Perhaps a smidgen of bubblegum in there as well. Palate slips along the tongue at a leisurely pace, sure, but what’s the hurry? I’m enjoying every sip of this one.

Bottle. Bubblegummy wheat, grainy hearty aroma. Red brown with a fizzy beige head. Tinny vegetable flavor, yuck. Seems I don’t like the weizenbock style so much?
