Usually nice balance of banans and cloves, though the last bottle I had was maybe a little old and a little winey. Some nice spices in there too. Enjoyable beer - but I wonder how well it will hold up in a cellar. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA

The taste is like it might be a little old, but no one else commented on that. Caramel, cinnamon, old bananas and clove. Obviously a much bigger beer than a regular hefe. csbosox (1082), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 29, 2005 12oz bottle. Enjoy by March 01 05. Ooops! Served @ 53° in my NB worthy glass. Pours orangish, golden maroon with a small, wispy head and finely ground pepper sized floaties. The aroma is sweet malt, bubblegum?, mild citrus and banana and a bit of spiciness. The initial taste is nearly candy like malt sweetness with some yeast notes and orange, banana, and coriander. The mid-taste is very citric; oranges and lemon really balance out the initial sweetness. The finish is spicy and a touch hot, but not badly so. The mouthfeel is substantial, with a nice slightly sour and spicy finish that also accentuates the yeast. This is a mighty fine beer. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA

2004 Bottle from notes dated 12/2004: Pours orange and cloudy with a hefty frothy white head. The first aromas that pop out are coriander, banana and oranges. After the head subsides, elements of grapes, apples and yogurt peak through. Taste is of oranges and lemons with a very nice earthy finish. This was my last 2004 bottle. I’m looking forward to this autumn’s release.

2003 bottle sampled in 2005: Pours amber and not as cloudy. There’s quite a bit of sediment at the bottom of this bottle. The smells of coriander and oranges are still there surprisingly and the butterscotch notes have come out even more. The banana and bubblegum detectable in the 2005 batch are no longer there, but the raisins and fig notes are still present. Mouthfeel is still very thick and complex.

2004 bottle sampled in 2005: Still orangish and cloudy with a tan head. Some sediment is present, but not as much as in the 2003 bottle. Smells of grapes and cherries with some nice cherry notes. The banana is very faint, but still there. Thick but semi-sweet and sugary mouthfeel. Fig notes on the finish.

2005 bottle sampled in 2005: Pours cloudy and brownish with a tan lasting head. Smells of rasberries, sugar, and caramel. Taste is of bananas, coriander, oranges, butterscotch, toffee. Mouthfeel is full and bubbly with a nice lingering bubblegum aftertaste. These continue to impress! ChazyRPh (571), Chazy, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 22, 2005 bottle, best by 4/5/05 - Cloudy amber with a nice fluffy head. This is very aromatic! I can smell it 2 feet away. Yeastly, fruity aroma...apple. This smells great. Yeast flavors to start, dark fruits and apple also start out. I also sense some bitter orange peel more toward the finish. The wheat presence is evident also, along with a slight alcohol warmth. This is a well balanced and very tasty brew. I would say that it ages well. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Thanks James - Pours cloudy murky amber color with a healthy 1/2 inch offwhite head.. Aroma is fruity, bannana apple cloves and yeast all fill the air above this one.. Flavor is a nice blend of cloves, bannana bread, a touch of maple sweetness and honey come through as well. On the palate this is quite smooth and refreshing... Much character over a beautiful creamy body.. Finishes with a slight spice burn that is actually nice.. A very unique brew and one of the best of this style that I’ve had.. I’m amazed that is this 8.7% because I never would have guessed it as I was drinking it.. Another nice brew from a good brewer! BierBauch (650), Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA

Smells yeasty and spicy-fruity with a sour touch and some cloves and bananas. Sweet and spicy flavor, with a nice prolonged aftertaste. I only recently got into german beers, so I’m rather lacking in adjectives... I like it.
