The aroma is sweet orangy, combined with light notes of wheat and alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with lots of caramel as well as light notes of wheat, that gives it a dry end, but it also has light spicy notes. The alcohol, that sets in from the middle gives the warmth. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2001 VENOM is giving this one away like it was Big Daddy IPA, but I don’t see anyone complaining. It’s been a while I had the opportunity to catapult a beer into the Top Ten, but I’m afraid it won’t happen today. Very nice beer, though - cloudy chestnut appearance; lovely aroma of banana, soft malt (biscuits, soft caramel tones) and pears. The palate is a little less complex, but brings wheat, pears and rounded malt flavours to the table. It is fairly acidic, and that helps balance out the malts, leaving the brew far more drinkable than one would prefer an 8.7%’er to be. argo0 (7018), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is spicy (mostly clove) and malty, slightly fruity (pear?) too. Taste is rich, mostly sweet wheat, but also malty, tart/acidic, and ever-so-slightly banana and pear. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. And oh yeah, it’s got HOW MUCH alcohol? Damn -- you’d never know. TBone (6867), Pori, Finland

Hazy dark nutty brown, small off-white head. Ryeish, bready, a bit wheaty with "American nose". Banana, bread, toffee ... lacks the power of Aventinus, but quite tasty. bu11zeye (5675), Frisco, Texas, USA
