madmitch76 (493), , Essex, England Nov 19, 2009 19th August 2008. Good aggressive barley and a good hop profile, smooth easy drinking Barleywine but not up there with the best. coldmeat23 (185), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Nov 18, 2009 ENJOY BY: NOV 29 12
Dark golden brown liquid with ruby highlights. Small creamy tan colored head of foam. Okay retention and okay lacing.
Big malty nose. Smells like buttered caramel. A little bit of brown sugar and vanilla. Slight hint of candied apricots. Very slight hint of earthy hops.
Nice caramel malts are out front. Hints of buttered bread with peach preserves. Toffee. Slight kiss of hops. Not prominent, though. Slight earthy spiciness.
Fairly light bodied for a barleywine style, I think. But, maybee that’s just me. It is smooth and creamy, though, and that’s a plus.
This one is very drinkable, IMO. Grab a case and come on by. Let’s see how many we can drink.
brosen561 (20), Minnesota, USA Nov 15, 2009 #20. Pours a very dark, opaque amber with a small beige head, more than you’d expect for this strong a beer. Smells of cinnamon, ginger, lemons, and that pre-rain smell. This is nice and hoppy, my type of beer. Offset well by sweet flavors of caramel, and also carries nice spiciness--like pumpkin pie--and citrus, very little alcohol taste. Finishes clean with just a touch of bitterness. Quite simply, awesome. neepsntatties (320), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 11, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Colour... copper-amber with no head. Nose... pretty hoppy but the malt is there too. Palate... burst of carbonation and hops, light brown sugar, golden raisins, moderate booze, dark corn sirup, toffee and a creamy mouth feel. Nice! Another one of those, "Gee! Why didn’t I try this sooner!", beers. cmillward (427), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 9, 2009 12oz bottle, a year old. Pours a ruddy amber with a creamy tan head. Nose of rich caramel, some fruit, a little booze, brown sugar. Flavor is rich malt, sweet, brown sugar, some figs, a solid bitterness and some strong alcohol towards the finish. Creamy, lush carb with med-heavy mouthfeel. A sipper for sure. SpencerDB (34), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Nov 5, 2009 Oh boy what a good beer. Poured with a thin tan head and a fruity/citrus/delicious aroma and had a matching taste. Creamy, tasty, and delicious. Hides the high alcohol content well. Great flavor, great beer. hayduke (1629), Eureka, California, USA Nov 5, 2009 Thanks to Strykzone for this superb beer. From a 12 oz bottle it poured a deep garnet color with a moderate light tan head and good lacing rings. The nose is caramel malts with ripe fruit, citrus, and alcohol. Very rich and creamy mouthfeel and a medium to heavy body. Lots of tantalizing flavors with ripe fruit and moving to a nice bitter citrus finish. A simply sublime American Barley Wine. rabba9 (66), Chaska, Minnesota, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bottle pours amber brown with a thin white head. Aroma is heavy on malts, caramel, raisin, and cherry. Taste is caramel sweetness initially but finishes with a nice floral hop bitterness and a roasted malt flavor. Body is medium-heavy. Flavors are balanced incredibly well, Well done!
