Head fades quickly to nothing. Citrus, dark fruit, and plastic dominate the nose. Flavors are dark fruit, mild citrus, wood, slight vanilla. Finishes sweet and bitter at the same time. Leaves behind sticky resinous feeling, bitter and plasticy. Body is mildly syrupy with minor carbonation. This seems out of balance to me and somewhat overdone. Im not really seeing the reason for such high ratings on this one. jake65 (1698), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 17, 2008 Bottle: Deep amber with a nice, creamy tan head. Nose is Hoppy and fresh with citrus. Light bits of maltiness and dark fruits. Flavor is sweet and rich with caramel, brown sugar, and candied fruits. Underlying maltiness softens the citrus hop presence, but in a good, succulent way. Nice and creamy palate. An excellent brew. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 13, 2008 not too bad. really nothing special at all though. this is just an everyday, run-of-the-mill barleywine. Taverner (836), San Ramon, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2008 Aroma was almost non existent. Pours a hazy caramel with minimal head. First taste is a dry, bitter palate cruncher with a little sweetness behind the hops. Not an over the top malty Barleywine, but instead an understated dry beer with a nice balanced hoppiness that sticks around. ebrowner88 (113), Rice, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 11, 2008 I had a sample of this at the Victory Brewery. I was already a few pints in to the experience when the bar keep pulled a sample of this off for me. Brown color, head was lighter color then the beer. Great malt taste and warm mouth feel. Room spinning, then stopping, then leaning. Then "stop touching me" then "you guys have any cashews?" followed by "let me try one of those golden monkeys." dmtroyer (409), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 10, 2008 12oz. Brown body with orange highlights and an off-white head that quickly disappears. I have never experienced a barleywine like this, and it almost reminded me more of beers I have had in the "American Strong Ale" category. At any rate, this is an exceptional effort for a style I don’t often enjoy. The body is rich and concentrated with some very surprising bitter fruit, with toffee and almond flavors following with the strong malt backbone. Good carbonation lifts this brew above the sludge barleywines can become. An exceptional beer. BlackForestCO (820), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Updated: Feb 25, 200907 bottle thanks to Ty5592. Poured a deep caramel brown color with ruby highlights and a fluffy, light beige head that slowly receded. Aroma of caramel, light apple, and some lightly citric hops. Sweet, smooth maltiness with some caramel and toffee with a lightly bitter hop presence and a slight hint of citrus and some butterscotch on the finish. Pretty thick and smooth, light alcohol on the finish. Seems like this one may be a bit better fresh, but still a nice beer. hillfiiiiire (284), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Caramel colored body with a mostly off white head that quickly dissipated. Smells like a malty fruit punch and really am smelling nothing but the barley malt. There’s a touch of bitter bite in the flavor. It finishes with a hop presence, but is heavily compensated for with the malts. Really wasn’t that impressed.
