Aroma was sweet malt, with spice and a light fruit bouquet. Body was full with a little more spice and fruit complexities. The brew was good but could have used a little more depth overall. Still a fine brew. jrmac (213), USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 2, 2009 Draft sampler at Bully’s Restaurant & Pub, Columbia, PA...deep reddish-amber color, no head by the time I got it (tan?)...aroma of dark fruits, brown sugar, slight hops...flavor includes much of the same, some alcohol...smooth, warming...good slow sipper. beerandIT (182), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2009 Pours a darker brown with almost no head. On the nose I am geting caramel, an alcohol sweetness, slight malts there and subtle nuance of toffee there. I also smell some candied sugars there as well. Full bodied. On the palate I am getting sweet alcohol there first, caramel hardcore, butterscotch as well. Delicious! Get this beer. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jul 19, 2009 Deep burnished amber pour with a thick frothy head. Warm toast and toffee on the nose with a bracing grip of citrus zest hop. This bottle is fresh and the booze does numb the nose slightly. Deceptive palate. As the Brits take the couch with their malt and baked fruit the Americans change the channel and the hop comes forward. Very seamless beer. Velvety texture adds to the vivavcious luxury. The palate dries as baked stone fruit is wisked away by a wall of bittering hops. Well built and made for the cellar. Don’t doubt the best by date. Wonderful with Rogue Smokey Blue. Points given for agebility. Well priced. 93 FlssmrBrewAlum (1109), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 19, 2009 12 oz bottle shared with a friend from the Binnys Singles rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a dark hazy amber, big tannish beige head that dies to practically nothing. Aromas lay down good caramel and toffee malts, light floral hops, brewhouse, and biscuit. Initial is a bit lively, caramel and toffee mixing with decent bitter hoppiness on the backend. Biscuit, a touch of grapefruit, decent florals. This is overall, a pretty good barleywine. Lacking a bit in body, overall. But still, a solid "everyday" Barleywine. Cheers. yespr (11905), Copenhagen O, Denmark
