FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2009 12 oz bottle shared with a friend from the Binnys Singles rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a dark hazy amber, big tannish beige head that dies to practically nothing. Aromas lay down good caramel and toffee malts, light floral hops, brewhouse, and biscuit. Initial is a bit lively, caramel and toffee mixing with decent bitter hoppiness on the backend. Biscuit, a touch of grapefruit, decent florals. This is overall, a pretty good barleywine. Lacking a bit in body, overall. But still, a solid "everyday" Barleywine. Cheers. yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jul 18, 2009 12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma is mild fruity and slight alcohol from the barley wine. Smooth fruity and dark rich malty flavoured. Smooth mouthfeel. Bitter and nicely fruity flavoured. A bit young yet also lovely fresh flavoured. Bitter and fruity hoppy finish. Shakesbeere (52), Massachusetts, USA Jul 18, 2009 Pours an amber orange color. Aroma is of caramel, dark fruit, hops, and alcohol. Flavor is of hops, toffee, malt, and deep cherry. A hoppy and moderately alcoholic finish. Excellent balance and excellent taste. fidelis83 (707), Clinton, Iowa, USA Jul 15, 2009 Pours milky copper with a thin, creamy beige head. Aroma is dark caramel, dark fruit, sweet whiskey, orange peel, vanilla pudding, as it warms... leather, earthy hops and mince meat pie come out. Flavor is sweet grainy malt, earthy hops, fresh cooked caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, earthy root beer, some cherry and a little smoke. Finish is earth, woody notes, bitter hops and some leathery booze. Palate is medium body, hedium effervescense and creamy, slightly syrupy feel. Awesome, awesome stuff. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jul 13, 2009 Pours a nearly clear ruby-red with a thin ring of foam and no lace to speak of. Incredibly potent aroma - dark, sweet fruit with a touch of booze and sweet mash. Sweet, sweet taste obliterated almost instantly but sharp bitter hops and peppery booze. Well-balanced with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Light carbonation and a thinnish body. Very, very tasty. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Jul 9, 2009 Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home. [ Trade by VikingHammer ]. Clear medium red amber orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, orange, alcohol. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. [20090605] stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 7, 2009 This might be the first barleywine I have tasted. Not that I haven’t had my share of Old E, but this is actually good. Huge sweet malt body, shapr with alcohol but a nice mix of the two flavors. Ends with some nice hop aromas, nothing specific but a good bite. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Jul 5, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep amber color with a rapidly disappearing beige head. The aroma has a nice mix of moderately sweet malt and fruits with strong floral and pine hops. The flavor has great balance between the complex levels of hops and the moderately sweet malt backbone. I get caramel malt, orange citrus, vanilla, some alcohol, a little pepper, and hop bitterness that works well with this beer. I have had this many times over the years and it has not been its usual self for a couple of years. Recent batches are making a triumphant return to quality.
