Commercial Description:
Luxuriously rich in character, this warming winter ale delivers over 10% alcohol in an oh-so-seductive manner. Deliciously fruity flavors lie under a bracing hop nose.

Bottle. Dark golden in colour with a medium sized head. Malty and sweet with notes of dark fruits, caramel and grass. Hints of cherry (or berries of some sort) and also a bit alcoholic.

bottle. copper body with a small white head. malty, yeasty cheese, and citrus hop aroma. this is a pretty hefty beer and is my first barley wine of the fest (actually, as I’m entering this rating it may have been the only barley wine I had). bold malty body, sweet in the middle...hoppy throughout and pretty much just the right amount of hops. some cheese and chocolate notes. very nice.

murky reddish brown under a small beige head. aroma is very sweet and hoppy. notes of licorice, candy, and peaches in aroma as well. palate is full bodied and sticky. flavors of hops, pineapple, and pears. touches of spices and licorice. lots of fruity sweetness. who needs dessert?

The taste I had was from a bottle aged for two years. Very malty. Lop in hop flavor, its more malt. Enjoyable.

Hot, lacks depth, prickly mouthfeel, overt fruitiness. This has undeniably suffered in quality over the past few years.

When most American breweries aggressively hop their barleywines, Victory has stepped in with a nice malty traditional British style barleywine. Intensely rich, sweet, and alcoholic, yet immensely drinkable, this is a great barleywine that should age especially well. Smells almost of sherry or madeira.

Deep amber colour. Aroma is of hops, caramel and alcohol. Flavour is very smooth, toffee, caramel and warming. Finishes with a nice warming alcohol bitterness. Thanks ciderguy.

Pours crimson bronze with a tan bubbly head. The aroma has heavily toasted malt with some dark fruits, 7-up like character, some abv warmth, light anise and other spices. Medium / full body with a good amoutn of unobtrusive spritzy carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of woody / earthy hops with a big ol’ malt backbone - it is fairly harsh, but not really in a bad way. The finish adds some spice, but the woody hops still take center stage. Very nicely done, but not something I would want as a frequently consumed beer.
