| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 25, 2005 Bottled Dec. 29, 2004. Pours a cloudy burnt orange. Tan, thin, quickly disappearing head. Nose is sweetly hoppy with a light caramel and citrus quality. Initial alcohol burn is replaced by a warm sweetness, somewhat like brandied oranges. Traces of winter spices show as it warms. Suprisingly clean, crisp finish for a heavier beer. SO easy drinking! Be careful, all that alcohol will sneak up on you! An excellent barley wine. A Victory indeed! A nice sweet and malty barley wine with plenty of hop balance. Alcohol present throughout. I detected some mild vomit character that I also got from Hop Devil, odd. Still very nice pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 30, 2005 Not as impressed as I thought I’d be. Looks beautiful, with a mahogany body and large khaki head. Spiderweb lacing. Complex aroma: sour malt, floral perfumed hops and a touch of wet dog. Lots of alcohol up front in the nose. Flavor is moderate malted sweetness along with a vinous sourness. Not great... simply good.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2003 Updated: May 24, 2005As it turns out my exhuberance for this one was quite irrational. The more I have had it, both fresh and aged, the more dissapointed I am. It seems to develop phenolic properties very quickly as it ages. It also seems to oxidize quickly. I am not sure if this is a recent trend with this beer s I first tried it in 2003, when it was very good fresh. The 04 vintage was no nearly as good. Bummer.
(10/4/9/5/19 - 4.7) 2003 Vintage - Sparkling clear ruby orange body topped by a gorgeous creamy off-white head. Lacing is superb. Aroma is massive floral-citric hops backed by a nice balance of spicy caramel malt. Wow this smells good! The flavor is also amazing, all the aroma develop into a burst of flavor on the palate. Bitterness and sweetness are perfectly balanced. The body is huge and thick, the 11% ABV is masked but it really warms the throat after the swallow. Overall a top 5 beer for me!
