Sweet caramel and perfumy aroma, with some alcohol. Strong caramel and nutty malt profile is the backbone to a predominately spicy and bitter hoppiness. Slighltly watery mouthfeel for this style. Finishes bitter, hot, and peppery. I think this one needs more time in the cellar. Overall a decent barleywine, but there are better examples out there. This one just fell out of my top ten list. Pours deep ruby red with a tan head that leaves fine lacing. A symphony of scents caresses the nose and sets you up for a flavor that is better tasted than described. If you love barley wines, you'll love this. If you don't, try this and taste a superb barley wine. Palidor19 (1796), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 3, 2008 12oz bottle, purchased sometime in early 2006 I think (best by 2011 on the bottle, so maybe it was a bit later). Anyways, this beer remains a very fine one, a favorite American barleywine for me. On the pour it looks like nice amber, trending ever so slightly to brown, with impressive carbonation. The notes are mildly fruity with a bit of sweet malts. Still a bit hot, amazingly enough, though not so much that it interferes with the complex flavors. Some bite from the hopes, sweet sugars, and a lovely combo of tobacco and bitter herbs round out the finish. Delish! sunevdj (1788), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

It looks hazy in the glass, like a shaken martini but far darker. Fruit and hops that linger on the tounge. Enjoyit (1782), Vadum, Denmark

Maple is the overriding aroma. Spicey/earthy hops are along for the ride. I kind of screwed up pouring this and got the slurry from the bottom of the bottle. Not real worries though. This baby showcases a creamy off white head that shows no real signs of going away. Firey oranges, reds and browns. Inviting. Warming, but not the least bit harsh. Maple, pine, the typical caramel and toffee that we all love oh so much. Silky smooth all the way down. Pleasantly bitter. Thanks again Chris.
