Maple is the overriding aroma. Spicey/earthy hops are along for the ride. I kind of screwed up pouring this and got the slurry from the bottom of the bottle. Not real worries though. This baby showcases a creamy off white head that shows no real signs of going away. Firey oranges, reds and browns. Inviting. Warming, but not the least bit harsh. Maple, pine, the typical caramel and toffee that we all love oh so much. Silky smooth all the way down. Pleasantly bitter. Thanks again Chris. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

A very sticky beer, this clings to your mouth and leaves the goodness there for awhile. Pretty strong, but the alcohol taste is somewhat subdued and feels appropriate.
ReRate, April 05. Nice thick head, strong aroma of hops and alcohol. Color is a hazy dark red. Full malty flavor and body, hops are there but really stick out in the bitter finish. Very clean tasting barleywine. Enjoyit (1746), Vadum, Denmark

Overripe apricot and pineapple in the aroma followed by a spicy effervescence. Damn this thing is hoppy! The flavor starts with light molasses and apricot sweetness but wraps up with strong piney, peppery hop bitterness. Passes the hop belch test with flying colors. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

A cloudy garnet color to it. little head if any. the trad licorice/ caramelized dark fruits in the aroma, and fairly the same throughout the body. Not too much funk in the body, and not too much alcohol is noticable. a solid bw. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

This one starts off with a rich, molasses nose that is more malty than hoppy. Rich, reddish amber color, murky, with an very small off-white head. Good lace. Initial mouthfeel is malty rich with molasses. Tastes like it smells. Finish is somewhat hoppy and very good. Hops come out increasingly as it warms. Surprisingly drinkable for an 11% BW. An excellent beer that makes for a premier winter warmer. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 17, 2008 Bottle: Deep amber with a nice, creamy tan head. Nose is Hoppy and fresh with citrus. Light bits of maltiness and dark fruits. Flavor is sweet and rich with caramel, brown sugar, and candied fruits. Underlying maltiness softens the citrus hop presence, but in a good, succulent way. Nice and creamy palate. An excellent brew. blipp (1716), Newark, New Jersey, USA
