Commercial Description:
Luxuriously rich in character, this warming winter ale delivers over 10% alcohol in an oh-so-seductive manner. Deliciously fruity flavors lie under a bracing hop nose.

Mahogany colored ale with thick foam for a head. Aroma is undeniable sweet malt. Body is heavy and maintains a sweet sugary caramel flavor. Very nice.

12oz bottle courtesy of kiefdog. Pours copper color with a fazzy tan head. Nose is caramel, some berry notes, brown sugar, fruit, and some floral hops. Flavor is fizzy caramel, whiskey, hops, and lingering sweetness in this medium-bodied barleywine. Moderately fizzy, and enjoyable.

Nice brownish ruby color with a thick foamy one-finger head that dissipates fairly quickly. Carbonation continued to rise to the middle throughout which led to significant head regeneration. Sugary molasses and malts with a strong representation of sweet dark fruits. Slight burning in the nostrils from the alcohol. As with the smell, sugar and malts dominate the taste with a very pleasant fruit taste. The alcohol also makes its presence felt at bit. Aftertaste of caramel and sticky toffee. Significant carbonation and alchol left the tongue tingling after each sip. Definitely a sticky, syrupy sweetness throughout. Despite the alcohol content and it’s presence in the taste, this is a very drinkable barleywine. Definitely a sipper, though.

Robe rouge surmontée d’une mousse beige mince qui s’estompe. Arômes de fruits rouges, de caramel et d’alcool. Saveurs de caramel, de bois, d’alcool et de houblon amérisant.

Fruity spicey nose, hops are evident. Thick creamy beige head. Deep ruby hue. Chewy and robust, firm malts are perfectly balanced in this medium to full bodied brew by big flowery hops. A terribly smooth barleywine, remarkable and one of the best of the style.

November ’03 bottle. Smooth, sweet and complex. Cloudy copper. Small off-white head. Strong malty aroma. Notes of ripe fruits, especially oranges, along with sugar, caramel and alcohol. Very sweet flavor followed by warming alcohol and hop bitter. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Moderately long finish. Great mix of flavors, comfortable texture. Excellent.

Excellent, but perhaps a little young. Dark amber pour with a fruity malt nose and a dash of hops. More hops than I expected in the flavor department; still, nice, lightly spicy character and fairly well balanced for such a strong beer. Very nice.
