| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 24, 2006 Poured a delightful shade of cloudy dark brown with orange highlights and a medium head, with minimal lacing. Aroma is very fruity, quite pear-like actually, but there’s a caramel sweetness to it as well. Balanced aroma. Taste is sweet and malty at first, but there’s a dried fruit flavor there too. Hints of hop bitterness are already present in the taste, and it’s a welcome twist IMO. Finish gradually converts the lingering sweetness into a woody hop flavor that is bitter, but not overwhelming. Very good stuff, makes me think of Old Stock Ale, but with a stronger hop flavor and bite in the finish. meathookjones (245), Sterling, Virginia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Vintage 2001. Pours a slightly hazy deep amber color with a small white head that retains quite well. Strong aroma containing a good amount of both hops and malty sweetness with slight hints of yeast and alcohol. The malt is what dominates the flavor with a nice sweetness. After that the alcohol warmth and a slight hoppy bitterness come into play to help balance out the sweetness. Wow what an excellent tasting and complex barley wine. This has a very dry after taste and is nice and think with good carbonation. A very drinkable barley wine, as I have had a sixer of it in one sitting. Overall an excellent brew from victory highly recommended. dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Mahogany in color with a sizable ivory head that fades eventually into heavy lacing. Sugary nose with some pretty up-front hop aromas. Another one to sniff for a bit. Slightly spicy with some fruit and pine aromas. So thick it coats your mouth. A ton of flavors make up the taste. Coffee, cocoa, caramel, raspberries, molasses, and toffee. Big Hoppy bite towards the end. Nice alcohol warmth. csbosox (1082), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 12, 2005 Updated: Apr 13, 200512oz, bottled Dec 14 ’04.Served in my NB worthy glass at 42.4°. Pours dark with a 1" cream colored head. Rings and spots of foam stuck around, lurking, and the beer glides down the glass when swirled. The aroma is carmelly malt and citrusy, perfumy hops? (cascade?) and is just wonderful. Reminds me of the Old Backus. The taste is increadibly huge with malt, honey, piney and floral hops. I love the hugeness of american barley wines. This is a winner, I’m glad I trade for a few!
