Head is mostly diminishing except for a thin ring round the edge of the glass and a light film in the middle. Big caramel malts in the aroma, along with Red Delicious apples, honeycomb, dates, and a touch of alcohol. Thick, chewy flavor, with more Red Delicious apples and sweet caramel malts. Juicy raisins in the finish. Full bodied and delicious. Alcohol is very well hidden in the flavor, and is only detectible in the immediate aftertaste. Beer Lover (23), Washington DC, USA

They brew some incredible beers, and Old Horizontal is one of them. This is a beautifully done barleywine, that is rich, delicious, and complex. The nose is very sweet malty with peppery hints of alcohol. The palate is lush with sweet malt flavors, caramel, toffee, and vanilla. This beer finishes malty up front then ends with a soothing, warming burn. One of the best domestic barleywines on the market today. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA

Lots of hops on the palate spicy, peppery and tingling at first, citric grapefruit bitterness in the finish. Cookie dough malts, toffee, caramel and raisin and plum fruitiness provide some nice backbone and exceprional balance. Port-like in the aftertaste. Pretty easy drinking. booyaatribe (453), Chicago, Illinois, USA

The alcohol taste is there, but not overwhelming. Beautiful hops-Victory does hops like no other brewery, bar none. Nice sweet/fruity notes in there too. bonvivant (164), Smithfield, Virginia, USA

Not for Bud and Coors light types. After finishing this I’m going to assume the Horizontal position. Thanks Victory jgb9348 (2511), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA

Great sweet smell with hints of banana, and other fruits. Also a slight hoppyness in the smell arises. Full-bodied beer with a great malty flavour. A sweet, complex and full-bodied taste leads to a great beer! More full-bodied and complex than Anchor's Old Foghorn and a great overall beer! Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Nice light red color with smallish head. Malty citrus flavor and warm mouth. A supurb barleywine. The ’01 cellered is freakin amazing.
