Very thick beer with an almost imperceptable flood of bubbles that tingle my lips as I sip. My mouth gets coated by this beer. It almost seems like candy, very sweet with a hint of hops. I can see why this beer is in the top fifty. Odeed (1677), Bakersfield, California, USA

Pours nicely with a strong head, and the strength doesn’t let up. Syrupy dark fruit consisting of raisin, plumb, and black cherry swirled together and fermented with a nice touch of sweet malt. The bittering hops keeps it from being to cloying. Alcohol is more noticeable as it warms. Make sure you have nothing pressing to do for a few hours after this one. Awesome. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 21, 2005 Pours deep amber with a small amount of yellow-tan head. Sweet and spicy aromas, with deep orange hoppiness. Ripe plum fruitiness and alcohol show as it warms. Rich, sweet and fruity tastes, with a nice clinging hop bitterness. Pleasantly warming. Mouthfeel is big and chewy without being syrupy--a tough thing to pull off in this style. Generally, I’m not a huge barleywine fan. So many seem overly sweet and one dimensional. This however, is a superior brew, full of interest and very well crafted. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 25, 2005 Brownish garnet in color. Large head for a barleywine - creamy, about 1/4" thick, off-white to grey. Aroma is sweet floral hops, honey, brown sugar and roses. Flavor is sweet and hoppy; honey and granny smith apples. Body is smooth, good levels of carbonation. Thins and mellows a bit near the end. Good hops and malts balance. Finish is mouth watering and light. Hard to believe that this one’s 11%. Thanks to lamas for the bottle! Sregnar35 (730), Rotterdam, New York, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 4, 2006 Bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. Bottled Dec.’04. Pours a very bubbly murky dark amber-orange with a lasting average size off-white head. Fantastic aroma of sweet malt, caramel, lots of floral hops, pine, brown sugar and alcohol -- lots going on there and it’s very lovely. Delicious flavour follows the aroma -- it isn’t as big as some Barley Wines, not as hoppy or boozy, but in a good way -- it’s really smooth and goes down really easy. Medium to full bodied. A truly wonderful Barley Wine, one of the best in my opinion, and definitely one of my favourites.
