Commercial Description:
Luxuriously rich in character, this warming winter ale delivers over 10% alcohol in an oh-so-seductive manner. Deliciously fruity flavors lie under a bracing hop nose.

Like many of the barleywines, the sweet malty aroma is abundant. However, the victory signature is apparent in the quality of the finish. Very smooth and a wonderful taste in a cool setting.

deep caramel and flavors of pine needles, pineapple and roasted malts. the hops bring a special ordeal to this beer. this is a great one to have.

The aroma is hoppy with pineapple, grain husks, caramel, and yeast. The appearance is deep amber with a large head. The flavor is like the aroma with an emphasis on hops but there is a sweet balance. The palate is typical for the style but could use a bit more substance. Overall this is a good beer but just seems less than impressive.

pours out light maroon with a tall beige head that was a sight to look at. the body is a beautiful maroon amber with an ever so light amount of bubbles rising up from the center of the glass. the aromas are spicy and fruity with a really nice malty backbone. i wish i had a candle that smells like this beer. there is some alcohol in the nose also, but it is really faint. it is pretty much full bodied with a really nice sweet bitterness to it. had notes of red onion, asparagus, and dark fruits. nicely balanced and not one flavor killing another flavor, its a symphany in my mouth and i taste every instrument playing. it has delicate lacing on the edges but they fade right back into the body. the aftertaste is also a another great taste. it is not in your face and leaves just the right amount of umph in your palate. cant wait for the next winter to enjoy this bad boy.

2008 bottle. Pours cloudy reddish brown color with beige head. Aromas of sweet malts and some fruitiness . Carmel malt sweet flavor with some dark fruits and molasses. Medium to full body with mild carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. Very good.

It is a complete travesty that I have not rated this beer before. This was the first barleywine I ever tried years ago before I started rating beer. I have had the beer many time since then and must have been convinced that I had already rated it. This is still the barleywine I compare all others to. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy red-brown color with a huge creamy red-orange had that lingered. The aroma was sweet and had a strong fruity hop presence and undertones of candied ginger and caramel. The flavor was sweet and bitter with toasted caramel, fruity hops, light pine, nut, cocoa and rum. A touch harsh. The finish is long with fruit, pine and caramel lingering. Full bodied. Excellent - an American classic.

ruby red pour with quickly reducing head. aroma is mostly malt based with strong toffee notes. flavor is more well balanced with big, puckering pine finish. balance is evident behind giant syrupy burnt caramel notes throughout. mouthfeel is just a touch slow and seeping. big alcohol and bitterness end.

Pours somewhat cloudy orange with a thick beige head. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, honey, tangerine and earthy malt. Taste is a great balance of sweet thick malt and brutal bitterness. Medium thick body with smooth carbonation. Quite a bitter finish.

2007 version. Very nice, balanced aroma. Dark amber color with copper tapering off at the bottom. Nice appearance. Thick and oily mouthfeel Dark fruit and black cherry taste. Perhaps my favorite barley wine that I have tasted but I’m not a fan of barley wines.
