Very standard and good-tasting porter. Works better than their Baltic, I think, but nowhere near the depth or perspective of their lighter "small" brews like the pils or wheats. Not terribly "smoked."

Dec 12, 2009 Very one dimensional, not a great aroma and light body. Not a lot of malt presence. Very dry and absolutely no sweetness. Tastes a bit like liquid smoke. The body is what concerns me most.

Nov 12, 2009 Solid porter. Nice and smokey. Good roasted aroma and flavor, a strong malt character, and a strong body. Had it on tap at the Pony Bar

Sep 14, 2009 Growler shared by bruce at SL... Nice smoke beer... Nice smokiness with some coffee/roasted malt aroma. Taste is smokey....some breakfast meats in there as well. Well balanced and not overdone/underdone... Texture is average as well. IMO a nice smoke brew, thanks bruce for sharing the beers tonight!

Aug 20, 2009 Extremely standard porter. Lots of toffee and some slight coffee and theres the smoke as usual. Very wet ale, and its smoke isn’t like cigar smoke but just a bit of heavy humid thick smoke that could be done without. Not too impressed, but I could drink a load of these and not tire from it. I wouldn’t be excited either. Just mediocre, to me.

Jul 26, 2009 Tap at BT for the victory promo. Pours a deep woody brown with a modest lasting head. Aroma is more of a meaty woody smoke- with some light wire electrical fire hitn- nutty and toasted malts, with a light dried chocolate malt dried nuttiness to it. Flavro is more zesty and wirey smokiness, meaty astringent woody smoke- almsot chery or peach-wood but nto as harsh- and not overwhelming- slight matchstick as well and some smooth sweet malts in the end. Ok, but not great.

Jul 10, 2009 Tap at Blind Tiger. Thin head. The aroma is lovely and smokey. Rich chocolate and cocoa along with a bit of soft bitterness. A bit of earthiness and a soft toasty malt character. Good balance of cocoaish toasted malts and the malt sweetness. The smoke is definitely apparent, but it is very well-balanced. Soft lingering rauch smoke. A solid effort with excellent integration of the smoke with the other malts.

Jul 6, 2009 Tap at the Blind Tiger. A big surprise here with this one, I wouldn’t expect Victory to make a top class smoked porter but indeed they have! The smoke is all there, rich but not dominant, and not peaty/hammy thankfully like so many American smoked efforts. Nice and clean, campfire like, bacony, mmmm. Chocolate and dry ash notes in the mouth, with a lovely body. If this were bigger it could easily breach 4.0 territory. I’d love to see them do an 8% version of this bad boy.
