The color was a purplish-red with not much of a head. The flavor had some caramel to it. It was pretty smooth, and the mouthfeel was lighter than I would have expected. Quite a nice beer. Nice hazy brown body, with a little beige head. Flavor is quite pleasant, slightly sour and fruity. Good body and carbonation. Overall, I found this quite enjoyable. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 6, 2006 Pours deep amber with a thick tan head. Good head retention when served on tap. Aroma had sweet malts, caramel, currant, raisin and various other fruits, Sour and alcoholic taste with caramel, currant and raisin mixed in with a strong alcohol taste. Mouthfeel was acidic but still quite full. A bit watery for the strength yet still effective. As it went down it became more drinkable. Good stuff. beerprincess (51), Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 5, 2006 I found this ale to be very skunky in aroma and has a bitter taste with a lingering palate. I wasn’t sure about this amber color ale at first but I grew to like it with every sip. OldGrowth (1426), North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 5, 2006 Bottle, from Julio’s. Enjoy by Aug 10/06. No problem there. Ok nose sweet & sour. caramel, grapefruit, raisin. Clean reddish orange color, good head that faded quickly to a ring, then nothing. Little to no lacing. Bitter flavor. Like aroma. Grapefruit, tinny, apple, caramel. Medium body, creamy oily mouthfeel, bitter finish. I enjoyed this, though it’s the bitterest alt I’ve had. If I had it blind I would have guessed an ipa. Good brew. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 1, 2006 Bottle. Clear red amber body under a small white head. Light crystal aroma with an apple fruit kick. Big malt flavor - wheat bread with caramel and honey gooped on top tempered by a bitter baker’s cocoa and wood finish. Piney, bitter hops linger on the tongue after a swallow giving a nice contrast to the sweet start. Good mouthfeel, too.
