Commercial Description:
A swirling dynamo of flavor, with a steady calm of satisfaction at its heart, that's Whirlwind Witbier. Offering a tamed tempest of flavors both spicy and sublime, this softly fermented ale greets the nose and tingles the tongue. Imported Belgian yeast charges Whirlwind with an energy all its own. It is a refreshing interpretation of the classic, Belgian 'white beer' style.

Smells like pepper. Tastes like pepper and milk and...curry? Bizarre but daringly interesting flavor and palate. Extra points for creativity. Darker yellow tint. Overall, impression is favourable in enticing.

Bottle thanks to Birdiebeagle. Pours bright hazy yellow with a 2-3 finger creamy white head that has decent retention. Aroma is bread, sweet wheat, lemon, raw yeast, a little spice and a little bubblebum. Flavor is very bready up front, followed by some floury wheat, a little lemon, some clove and bubblegum. Finish is some grain, lemon and yeast notes that become a little more peppery as it lingers. Palate is fairly light body with a soft, pillowy carbonation, very clean on the palate. This is a really nice witbier, one that isn’t overwhelmed by orange peel and still finds a nice, refeshing balance.

On Tap at Vic- Hazy lemon yellow pour with a white foam head, some lacing. Lemon zest / orange and light hops, yeasty. Not a fan of this one but the wife enjoyed!

Pours a light cloudy yellow with vanishing white head. Aroma of spice, wheat, bubblegum, hint of citrus. Similar taste with the spice and wheat dominating .Light and crisp. Solid beer for the style.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 6/23/09

Aroma: Smells like a typical Belgian, sweet wheat, banana, bubble gum, some spice, orange coriander
Appearance: Lightly cloudy yellow-orange color
Flavor: Similar to the nose, this one has the wheat beer spices and tastes that are typical of the style
Palate: Light to medium bodied
Overall Impression: A decent wheat/white, if you like this style, you’d probably enjoy this one, I don’t love the style, but I thought this was a pretty decent beer.

Bottle from K&L in Redwood City (yeah we can finally get Victory out here!). Pours cloudy yellow with a small white head. Noticeable sediment at the bottom of the glass. Aroma of citrus banana, wheat, spices, and bubble gum. Flavor more of the same with a little yeast. Light-medium body, very refreshing.

On tap at Elwoods Pizza, poured into a pint glass. Pours a clear yellow with a small creamy white head which recedes slowly to a small ring and swirl along the top. There is not much lacing on this one. The aroma is pretty much a mix of bubble gum wheat sweetness and a faint hint of spices. There’s definitely some coriander in there and probably some orange peel as well. The taste follows the aroma very closely and may be just a tad sweeter with the light wheat sweetness really dominating. The spices from the yeast and coriander don’t show up until the finish, and even then it’s not very prominent. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with good carbonation and fairly crisp in the finish. This is certainly not a very complex beer, but it is exceptionally drinkable. It’s tough to put the glass down which is the key determining factor of a great session beer in my eyes.

12 oz bottle purchased at Binny’s in Plainfield, Illinois. Pale yellow in color with very little head. Carbonation was minimal. Hints of lemon and mild spice. This beer is incredibly refreshing.
