Dry toast and roasted malts as well. Pours a wonderful reddish brown with great lace and a nice frothy head. Lively hop flavors up front - citrus, pine, floral, and leafy notes are followed by very toasty bread, dry roast, and lingering juicy citrus bitterness. Dry and juicy finish. Covers up the 8.9 percent extremely well. Kinz (2220), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 30, 2009 I had been disappointed with some Victory brews recently, but I have to say, with this one I think they have hit their stride again. I loved it. Draft at Cap Ale Innsbrook. Deep amber, clear, nice creamy head. Aroma is big hops, but smoothly of citrus and pine, not terribly biting. Simply fresh. Flavor is caramel backbone of malt, then grapefruit, pineapple, and pine resin hops, all just bursting like fresh fruit. Awesome. There is a suggestion of roast on the finish, but one is left with a sensation of bright, not overly bitter hop flavors. Must have hit this either very fresh or very well taken care of. Either way, fantastic. deyholla (760), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2009 On tap. Poured a clear dark burgundy with an off-white head that laced nicely. Aroma had strong pine notes with undertone of both roasted malt and citrus. Flavor was more balanced with the pine notes balancing with the roasted malts. leems (150), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 29, 2009 I was disappointed during my day trip to Seattle to find out Bottleworks cooler was broken so no beers on tap! I took the cashier recommendation and went down the street to the blue blahblah, it has a mural, pub. While irritated that they don’t serve food from 245 to 315 when I arrived at 246 I was surprised by a nice taplist. I chose this beer because Victory does good work and I was not disappointed. The hops are definitely there but the huge malt body balances them. A very easy to drink delicious American strong. I would definitely drink this again, if only they did growler fills! djd07 (755), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 28, 2009 On tap at flying saucer. Pours a very dark amber with a small frothy light tan head that leaves good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a floral hop with nuts and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter floral hop with raisin and a nice bitter finish. Alcohol present but not too overpowering. A good american strong ale from Victory. shp555 (1693), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Aroma is toast, biscuit, some roast, grassy, earthy, and some citrus. Flavor is caramel, biscuit, roast, and a bitter slightly astringent citrus finish. 5000 (2634), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Bottle:   Deep copper, large foamy beige head, nice lacing.   Darker than expected.   Musty grainy nose, soft citrus bitterness, a little peat or charred wood.   Tangy sweetness up front, hoppy but not biting, some of that white bits that come on the inside of oranges.   Background has a slight musty graininess to it, something that I dont really care for.   Body and mouthfeel are decent, a little bubbley up front, smooth on the backside.   Lingering grainy maltiness.   A little bit more of floral or citrus sweetness would make this a much better beer.   As is, its decent.
