Wow, there are a lot of hops here, and they show flavors that I particularly like. Not the woodsy DFH stuff, not the simple pine of Avery, this is something very Victory--weird peach or something like it. I loved this.

I took the cashier recommendation and went down the street to the blue blahblah, it has a mural, pub. While irritated that they don’t serve food from 245 to 315 when I arrived at 246 I was surprised by a nice taplist. I chose this beer because Victory does good work and I was not disappointed. The hops are definitely there but the huge malt body balances them. A very easy to drink delicious American strong. I would definitely drink this again, if only they did growler fills! djd07 (755), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 28, 2009 On tap at flying saucer. Pours a very dark amber with a small frothy light tan head that leaves good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a floral hop with nuts and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter floral hop with raisin and a nice bitter finish. Alcohol present but not too overpowering. A good american strong ale from Victory. shp555 (1691), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Bottle:   Deep copper, large foamy beige head, nice lacing.   Darker than expected.   Musty grainy nose, soft citrus bitterness, a little peat or charred wood.   Tangy sweetness up front, hoppy but not biting, some of that white bits that come on the inside of oranges.   Background has a slight musty graininess to it, something that I dont really care for.   Body and mouthfeel are decent, a little bubbley up front, smooth on the backside.   Lingering grainy maltiness.   A little bit more of floral or citrus sweetness would make this a much better beer.   As is, its decent.

Hoppy aroma with a touch of dark fruit sweetness. flavor is big, hoppy, smooth, and a slightly sweet, malty finish. Excellent brew. thehinge (247), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Brown pour. Citrusy aroma. This ale has a ton of fruity, hoppy goodness. I’m not such a good judge of IIPA vs. strong ale. Is there a clear difference? I would drink this any day. acblue (66), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Deep amber pour, thick off-white head, laces nicely. Big hop aroma with malty sweetness in the background. Quite impressively balanced; the hops are definitely at the forefront, but there is a molasses-y sweetness to the malt backbone that is surprising and lovely. Interesting that an East Coast brewery has created such a fitting tribute to Pacific NW hops. A wonderful beer. JCB (1796), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2009 12oz bottle from Tyler’s Bottle Shop, Carrboro. Seems to be emerging as a polarizing beer? I thought it was delicious. Dark brown pour, lively and full of carbonation. I reckon it’s a double India brown ale or something? Lots of citrus holding together the tea leaves, dark malts, and so forth. Refreshingly bright aroma and taste, but not one-dimensional. Almost a pumpernickel thing going on at times, with fresh tangerines. Sounds disgusting when put that way, but I thought it rocked.
