Poured a deep brown color with a smaller sized off white head (quite a dark color for a tripel). Some larger floaters. Aromas of earthiness, fruity, caramel, burnt brown sugar, and very light spices in the background. Tastes of caramel, green apples, grapes, dark fruits, and some spices. A unique take on the tripel style (I would have guessed this was something else vs. a Tripel). BDR (2169), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

Pours a burnt amber brown with a fast dissolving white head. Aroma of sour apples, pears, sweet raisins, and sugar taffy. Taste is sweet, average blend with a lot of carbonation. Finish is of a sour apples and dry. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 26, 2007 12 oz bottle.Hazy brown color, small off white head that had a good hang time then faded slowly to leave a bit of a lace behind. The aroma was fruity and caramelish with a decent but mild hop showing. The flavor was nicely done, fruity spicey flavor with a decent malty side and a good feel all around.Could use a bit more of this and that but over all it’s a pretty decent brew, and well worth trying again. The aroma was of apples and vinegar. The tastes was very sour with notes of granny smith apples and grapes. Way too sour and acidic for me.

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Dec 24, 2006 From a 12 oz. twist off bottle with no freshness date.
Poured a cloudy reddish brown with a large foamy, creamy off-white/beige head that settled into a thin creamy lacing.
Aromas of apple cider with sweet baking spices, cinnamon and brown sugar, with a light caramel covered raisins in the background, for me, it’s not that appealing.
Good fizzy carbonation and a crisp, dry acidity, carbonated smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel.
Dry taste with a lot of cider, vinegar-like acidity, tastes of harsh apple cider, cinnamon and powdery, floury sugar, a subtle raisin bready, a watery caramel, a soft spiciness, and a dry yeasty, malty finish.
I didn’t find this to be very pleasant, I won’t be buying this again.

Very fruity - Apple, grape, raisin - a touch of woodsy, earthy malt in the background. I have no idea if this is supposed to taste like this, but kinda enjoyed it. Thanks to JK for the trade! | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 19, 2006 12-oz. bottle, labeled as Abby Normal Tripel Abbey-Style Ale. Small hiss with the cap coming off, falling into the glass as crimson-amber with only a thin skin patch for the head. Interesting aroma conjures up peppered pencil erasures, ashen cinnamon bubblegum, caramelized brown bread, licorice and stewed beets. When push comes to shove, the flavor takes a turn for the worse. Cardboard thins out and meets some fire damage along the way. The beets are there with a lactic acid hook. Carbonation is lacking, thus leaving the liquid dumbstruck on the palate. Raisin bran gets blindsided by peppered plum nougats and a dry, earthy bitterness cleans off the tongue. A touch of generic chocolate-coated raisins get a glimpse in the background. Concord grape jam pushes shelf life to the limits with a faded, cackled peppercorn finish.
