Bottle: Dark brown pour with a large, creamy brown head. Aroma is ripe with roast, chocolate, coffee, and a bit of smoke. Wow, that may be the silkiest and creamiest liquid I have ever consumed! Lots of roast, coffee, and light amounts of bittersweet chocolate swirl together in harmony. A little tingly in the end, lots of bitters and roast in the tail. Very enjoyable. Thanks to ughsmash.

Pours black, with a medium, foiamy light brown head. Smells of some burnt malt, bitter chocolate, and cream. The flavor was pretty roasty up front, mixed with chocolate and a touch of some dark fruit there in the finish. The alcohol was kind of noticeable throughout and at times got the beer a little intense, especially in the finish and aftertaste. Pretty nice little impy. Not overly flavorful, but solid enough.

2007 bottle consumed 2008, at least one year old. A deep brown/black pour with a big pillowy head of light tan fluff that diminishes to a 1/8 inch layer of froth. The aroma is rich dark fruit, raisins, fig and just a touch of alcohol. The flavor is also rich ripe dark fruit and actually some chocolate and liquorish in the flavor. The flavors are well-blended smooth and rich. A unique and interesting stout. Kinda reminds me of Harvey’s Imperial Stout. 7/4/8/4/17

bottle by way of stine... pours an opaque near black color with brown at the edges and a fluffy khaki head. spots of lacing are left behind in blanket form. initial aroma strikes me as very baltic-like... chocolate, malt, cream, toasted rye, slightly charred black raisins/prunes, musty oat-like earthiness and some grass. tastes dark... anise, molasses, chocolate, prunes/dark raisins, burnt nuts, vanilla and seedy dryness before a sour dry finish. coffee shows up in the aftertaste. it’s on the lighter side of medium bodied. creamy texture from the low carbonation. quite smooth but the acidic touch cleans it off the palate well... 8/4/8/4/16/4.0

second bottle straight from the brewery... smells and tastes unpleasantly like marshmallows and bitter roasted grain. big difference... now i’m worried as i’ve gotten three in a row that seemed ’off’... 5/4/4/4/10/2.7

Pours out black, but more dark brown around the edges. Light tan colored head that slowly dissipates leaving some spotty lacing. Light cocoa aromas with coffee hidden even more, there is a definate creamy vanilla aroma as well. Taste doesn’t overpower the palate, but isn’t skimpy either. It starts out with a light cocoa flavor paired with some vanilla, leading you to a small amount of earthy hops, before turning into a long roasty finish. Taste gets better as it warms, and the finish is the best part of each drink. Creamy and smooth with low carbonation, lighter side of full bodied. Overall this is one pretty good beer, and one that is better than my ratings show. To be honest, this is one that I’ll be picking up quite often, I really enjoyed it.
