Nice chocolate and roasty malts on the nose of this very dark beer with decent tan head. More chocolate and coffee in the flavor. Classic Stout flavors. Very Yummy. radiomgb (2057), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2007 Deep black in colour, very thin beige coloured head, no lacing. The aroma is of dark chocolate, liquorice, dark fruits, lightly sweet, some molasses and a mild roast. The flavour is mildly sweet, lots of chocolate, roasty, light caramel, a bit burnt. Mildly sweet mouthfeel, medium body, mild carbonation. Finishes long with some light alcohol warmth. Pretty good. I’ve had this bottle for 2-3 years, did age thin this beer out? Great roastiness but somewhat lacking in body.

Aroma is cherry, raisins, alcohol, and some notes of chocolate. Taste is cherry up front, followed chocolate and finally roasted malt that lasted a long time--there was also a bitterness that was a little detracting and the low point for this beer. Mouthfeel was quite thick. Very smooth. Very good beer that exceeded my expectations. Guerde (710), Welcome, Minnesota, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 28, 2007 (bottle) Pours a black with a large tan head that lingers and leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is very fruity with hints of cherry, raisins and plums, with subtle undertones of cocoa. Taste was an initial taste of tart cherry with the chocolate coming in and taking over which then yielded to a nice coffee finish. The mouthfeel was good on this one. Pours a huge, beigey-brown head with an opaque body. Minor sediment at the bottom. Nose is more roasted coffee than a Russian’s soya sauce palate. Its very nice, by the way. Flavour is incredibly smooth with a raisin resin, fig and molasses. Very tasty stuff. incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA

Me not know? Lots of sweet raiseny, plum flavor in there, a little to sweet for me. Smooth though for 8% and was drinkable in the 95 degree heat.
