Overall, an above average ruby. I will try this again. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 20, 2004 Deep ruby. Lightly hoppy aroma, faint sourish note. Decent caramelly maltines, but there’s a sourish yeasty note thats rather distracting. Hops have a bit of mustiness as well. BeerAteHer (384), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 16, 2004 Pleasant aroma. A few old soap suds on top - not a head - but a nice, ruby-brown color. Somewhat watery, could use more carbonation as mentioned in other reviews. Though rather plain the flavor is remarkably dry for a beer of this tint. Quite malty, somewhat fruity, with a hoppy port wine afterkick. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Clear, rich amber color...full, solid cream-colored head, slow to dwindle down...nice lookin’
big, malty nose, sweet, but with a certain...somethin’ else...man, what is it?...oddly spicy and fruity, but which and what? ...very ripe, herbal, then we have malt riding back up and into control...interesting, and unusual. Huh, but mixed with Hey.
Taste: geez, it’s happening again. Same unheard-of flavor, but a bit flat, not enough going on in the mouthfeel. tastes lovely, actually, but needs more carbonation, needs more spark on the palate.
Maybe I got a lackluster bottling, but I don’t know...

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Sep 13, 2004 2004 ABR. Obisbeer really liked this one, so I chose it from the long list of brews Viking brought to the 2004 Autumn Brew Review. Sweet, hoppy malty aroma. Amber in color. Mostly dissipating off-white head. Not much lace. Flavor isn’t bad. Undercarbonated, however, which has been the case for other Viking beers I’ve tried. I believe they have a little trouble with their bottling. I like their gold foil wrapping, but it isn’t keeping the gas in. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 12, 2004 I expect good things from this brewer but this beer exceeded by expectations for a dunkel. Red color. Lots of fruit in the flavor, but not too much sweetness that ruins so many dunkels. Finishes light and clean. Good stuff.
