Opened to a loud pssst - I was expecting it to gush, but it didn’t. It did, however, proceed to pour all head. Settled to a medium orangish color. Aromas of toasted nuts, caramel, bready and yeasty. Tastes of caramel, toasted nuts, and toffee. Fizzy body that took away from the tastes. JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA

Rust, and blood and soap flavors. I do believe we have a contamination problem. Finish is a bit sour and acidic. I’ll have to go to the brewery and try fresh. | 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 4/20 | Jul 26, 2007 12 ounce bottle from Blue Max in Burnsville, MN (June 2007) served a bit below cellar temperature from a Hair of the Dog glass. Pale, very clear amber-copper with just a touch of quick-disappearing off-white foam....buttery, diacetyl-ridden aroma is hard to work with, but after a little effort is made there are light pale malts, a hint of toastiness or even smokiness, a bit of vanilla....the body is cloying, sickly sweet at first, but quickly an inappropriate lactic sourness shows up and essentially kills the faint grainy malt notes and the hints of dry grass....finishes quite sour and unpleasant, with a soda-like mouthfeel. Definitely off, and not that high quality to begin with I’d say, much like the Mørketid from the same brewery that I just had; this one is worse, basically undrinkable after a few sips. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 25, 2006 From a bottle with the newer label. A dark copper colored body with a slightly yellowish thin head on top. The aroma is meaty with honey ham. There is also a little bit of walnuts and some caramel. The taste is slight tobacco with a little bit of cherries and some iced tea. This is toasty and warm. Pretty good for Viking and the style. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 6, 2004 Bottle: Not very ruby hued, more akin to a deep amber with a fading fizzy head and good lace. The aroma has malty notes of caramel and toast, aromatic hops, light apple and pear, and some dusty yeast esters. The taste starts malty and fruity and thats about it. Straight forward with little depth of palate. A hint of lactic sourness and smoke of the finish. The feel is chalky and dry, gets boring. A beer for the masses, uninteresting. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 2, 2007 From a 12 oz bottle, pours a dark caramel with an ivory head that stays around for a few minutes. Aroma of citrus and ripe apples. Taste of malt barley and apples. Smooth finish. Very nice done. Ughsmash (4074), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 6, 2006 Bottled. Poured a clear medium amber with a swirly dusting of white head. Nose was sweet with caramel and some kind of fruity candy that I can’t put a finger on. Flavor was quite sweet as well with about the same stuff... add some herbal notes and nuttiness. Dry and lacking carbonation on the palate... sharper tart bitter feel at the finish. Not bad.. not good.. drinkable.
