hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Sep 6, 2009 new bottle straight from the brewery...
crystal clear golden straw colored with a short lived white head.
initial blast of aged sherry wine... followed by a barrage of weird stuff i don’t normally associate with mead... green wood, orange peels, flowers, sour honey, dried aromatics/spices/eucalyptus/herbs and the topper... wet beaten up abalone mushrooms (ammonia).
the flavor is the same jumbled up mess as the aroma... along with lemony iced tea, a dry herbaceous finish and some bubblegum in the aftertaste. the whole thing is odd but not unpleasant... kinda like a mystery which needs to be solved.
the body is medium to thin. after the prickly carbonation dies down the palate feels thin but really easy to put away.
idk what to make of this. so... friggin... weird... 6/3/5/3/12/2.9 IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Jan 30, 2009 Strong honey wine aroma. More wine like that beer. Light citrus aroma with a semi dry finish. Good. drpimento (785), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Jan 7, 2009 If only someone would make a dry sprarkling mead like a few buds have made. But - this poured a nice slight head that stayed and a bit of lace. Pleasant pale amber with a slight haze. Aroma is distinctly honey. Flavor is juicy pears with apple and green grapes, not so big in the honey. Way sweet though. Too sweet. In fact sweetness dominates. It’s not bad, but I just wish someone would do a dry sparking mead. "nuff said. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 2, 2008 Thanks to Bob for sending this my way.. 2004 bomber, I believe. Poured crystal-clear brighter golden with a short, fizzy cap of white head. The aroma picked up dry honey that was heavily laden with green apples and floral notes.. quite sharp. The flavor was sharp once again with green apple really leading the way.. dry white grapes, honey, and abrasive boozy apple skin on the back and finish.. not very good. Very high, fizzy carbonation on the palate just popping the sharpness all over.. dry, alcohol-ey skins again on the finish. This had some good characteristics, but it didn’t come together. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA Mar 1, 2008 Courtesy of Skyview. Golden yellow pour with a thin white head. Light fruits and honey on the nose. There is definitely honey present in the taste as well as the light fruit again. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Feb 27, 2008 Picked up a single 22-oz bomber, 2004 Vintage, straight from the brewery in Dallas, Wisconsin. Pours a clear straw blonde brew with a fast dissolving white head that dissipates clean with no film or head. Aroma of pear and apple juice, some tart ice vinegar, and a touch of honey. Taste is light bodied, some carbonation with flavors of tart pears, light apple skin, honey and a near light Asti Spumante. Finish is slightly spritzy, light tart honey and apple flavors that quickly dissipates after the finish. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 10, 2007 Pours a clear yellow gold, effervescent, but almost no head. No lacing. Very sweet aroma, like Asti Spumante and honey combined. Full fruity flavor, with white wine grape and green apple, very sweet with lots of honey. A little dash of dry spice in the finish that does nothing to diminish the sweetness. Too mild carbonation, not quite medium bodied. awaller05 (300), Sharon, Wisconsin, USA Apr 30, 2006 Cool beer, I personally thought this one was going to be real shitty. Real good one though, Sweet taste of apples, a cider taste. Makes a different type of drink.
