| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 7, 2008 Well now here’s something different. Huge chocolate aroma with a nice roasty background. Seems like there’s a little rummy alcohol in there too, or maybe its the peppery kick of the cayenne? Right there in the first sip, the cayenne is unmistakeable. Check that - if I hadn’t known the beer had cayenne, I would have thought it was a spicy fusel alcohol. Well built stout behind the pepper, with plenty of roast and good smooth carbonation. drpimento (842), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA

There’s a smoothness to it that is nicely contrasted with the peppery hottness of the cayenne. Also the maltiness. Really, I like the way this turned out. A bit of a problem with head retention and lace, but wth. Nice n dark, very chocolatey, silky. Nice finish. Had a bottle of this at Bodega Brew Pub, downtown La Crosse, Wis. nolankowal (854), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Aug 9, 2007 Bottle. Deep brown with a small, fizzy head. Disturbing tan floaters. Flavor was roasted malt and cocoa, with red pepper coming later. Like eating spicy food; you don’t realize how much red pepper there is until after you drink. Not truly ’hot’, but a definite factor. Weird and artificial. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 9, 2007 Bottle: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma, chocolate and spice, mainly a hint of cayenne. Flavor, baker’s chocolate, but the cayenne takes over. The heat isn’t really that intense, but it over powers most any other flavor.
