| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 21, 2007 Picked up single bottle at Blue Max in Burnsville, MN. Pours a dark clear amber with a small off-white head. Dissolves fast to a decent lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel, brown sugar, allspice and a touch of butterscotch. Flavor is lightly carbonated, smooth and a sweet aftertaste. Palate is light body. Ughsmash (4095), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 31, 2007 Bottle thanks to Brigadier! Poured a hazy, rather ugly medium garnet with a short layer of white head. Nose picked up a whole bunch of honey with dark fruits and some leafy hoppage... very sweet overall. The flavor was also sweet with a hefty honey backing, dark fruit, semi-sweet chocolate, and a mild woodsy bitterness. Syrupy and sweet on the palate with higher carbonation.. really dries out on the back-end. Not a great beer.. but had some interesting components. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 10, 2007 Pours a lightish brown color, clear with nice red tones when held to the light. About half an inch of nearly white suds - but no lacing. Mild caramel maltiness in the nose. Sweetish beer with some caramel and some honeymalt, I don’t detect any hopping. Body definately on the light side for a doppelbock. Soft carbonation, smooth drinking, and a carmelly flavor in the aftertaste.
Not a bad beer, but not a doppelbock. Call it a regular old bock and I’d be more inclined to agree. Nuffield (2749), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 14, 2007 Updated: Feb 2, 2008Moderately dark brown, 75% opaque, some clinging off-white head. Muted aroma (caramel and alcohol) but much better mix of flavors, more nutty and sweet, reminding me of a good English stout--it has the body characteristic of that, being reasonably thin but with sweetness that tends to stick. It doesn’t lose the mouthfeel too quickly and while it is simple (one-dimensional) it is a flavor profile that I dig. Reasonably enjoyable beer to sit with--in fact, I could see buying this as a regular beer around the house, given its relatively low price. 6-4-8-3-13 (3.4) // Re-rate, February 2008. Soured! So typical of Viking beers...and so frustrating. I’ve heard it’s their facility, which is just rife with infection. Too bad. You just can’t trust a Viking beer not to be half vinegar. grimreeser (797), Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2006 Thin sudsy head. Recedes kind of quickly. Light carbonation. Sweet candy aroma with molasses and brown sugar. Very sweet and honey like in the aroma. Dark ruby brown in color. Lots of malts, more brown sugar and a touch of smoke. Smooth and creamy with a touch of zippy tartness at the back end of the swallow. Easy drinking. Finish is sweet and slightly bitter. A good brew but I would not classify this as a very good dopplebock. Good drinking brew anyway. Thanks to robertsrealty for this brew.
