A nutty like aroma with little else. Very light in body leaves you wondering where the flavor will come from. A very average bock at best. Can this really be a doppelbock? barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

Pours a dark effervescent ruby with a tall off-white head. Nice aroma of dark fruits and molasses. Taste is somewhat faint, though dark fruits show through with a touch of dry hoppiness. A bit of toffee shows itself in the finish. Not a bad endeavor. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 2, 2005 2004? 12oz bottle from Robertsreality. Shared with OldGrowth on 5/28/2005. Auburn-amber colored body is murky-cloudy with a small white head that recedes rapidly to cover and retained from there. Cereal grains in the nose, dates, plums and, as OldGrowth noted, cherries. No bockyness really. Aroma is rather faint overall. Flavor is bready, with lots of fruits: cherries, candied oranges. Some light chocolate covered cherry notes, more dry/astringent breadiness on end. Medium body, somewhat loose and thin on end. No alcohol noted. Low carbonation. Body/malt sweetness seemed to increase as it warmed, which was good, but it still dosent come off as a doppelbock to me. OldGrowth (1426), North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 30, 2005 Bottle, with ClarkVV. So-so nose, yeasty fruit, caramel, chocolate. Had to dig for it though. Nice hazy orangy brown color. Huh didn’t comment on the head in my notes, I’m slippin. Sweet flavors Caramel, whole wheat, cherry/ grape. Medium body, creamy syrupy mouthfeel, sweet sticky finish that faded off the toungue. This one rallied as it warmed. Nose never improved though. Appearance:Hazy ruby coloration, good, 1/2 ,"creamy head.
Big, almost syrupy malt sweetness in the nose. deep, though, with tones of maple, mollasses, dark fruits, black cherries, apples, a touch of sour. oddly.
Taste: Rich malt, mostly cherries and fruit. Definitely tasty, though, can’t deny that, still feels like it’s not quite what it ought to be, to be a doppel. ...a little something extra, maybe?
A nice enough try, but give these guys some time and they’ll get bigger and better. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 10, 2005 Aroma is of full-on malt, with a little apple sweetness and cinnamon spiciness. Flavors are sweet and malty, caramel and toffee, with notes of applesauce and alcohol poking up here and there. Leaves an overall sweet taste in the mouth, combined with a general thick and chewy mouthfel, make for a candybar-like drink. Not overbearingly sweet, though, a good balance.
