| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 4, 2007 Dark amber color, small foamy head. This beer doesn’t get the ratings of the best doppelbocks, but the taste is right there. Soft malts, a bit of bittering hops. This is one of the better brews that Viking makes, and the soft water that they use works well to complete it. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 24, 2003 Deep dark mahogany in color with a lusciously thick pencil width high head of light tan colored tight froth with some larger bubbles, sustained for a while then fading to a thin ring and gets minimal spotty lace. Whoa Nelly is this stuff tangy sweet....taangy! Nose of malty sweetness abound with a good sense of toffee, some plum, caramel and molasses. Taste is sweet toffee and unripe grapes upfront mixing with light butterscotch, a bit thin and short lived in the flavor dept.; lacking in some depth. Has some hindering roastyness and finishes with a souring yeast and soft earthty hops adding to the balance of overall sweet tangyness. The feel starts lightly creamy and thin but picks up a nudge and favors a close mediumness with lingering tangy candied apple in the mouth and tongue.
Worthwhile effort, not especially memorable, but decent enough to finish off the bomber without any second thought.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 18, 2002 Slightly hazy chestnut with ruby hues. Thin light tan edge head. Light but steady carbonation. Plum juice aroma with notes of caramel and dark molasses. Medium light body but thinnish and lacking an initial malt depth and girth. Solid vinous flavor, with hints of plums and black cherries. Wavering toasted malt aftertaste topped with a lactose or yeasty sourness. Hop presence in the background is soft and mellow, yet adequately balancing. Barely any hints of alcohol. As it sits the sourness squelches the already minimal hop flavor. Vinous quality remains throughout. Finishes a bit more expressive in the malt department with an added surge of non-sticky sweetness. A decent Bock but a rather weak Doppelbock. notalush (2668), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 2, 2009 Pours a hazy mahogany color, with a sudsy lace - quite a nutty aroma, with some dough, faint diacetyl, fig, raisin - smooth, creamy, medium-bodied - quite nutty, with notes of brown sugar, a lot of raisin, toffee, caramel - finishes with loads of chocolate and a spicy/peppery character, which is a nice twist - aside from the mild diacetyl in the nose, this is a pretty solid brew - quite underrated - maybe they just have poor quality control. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2006 Thin sudsy head. Recedes kind of quickly. Light carbonation. Sweet candy aroma with molasses and brown sugar. Very sweet and honey like in the aroma. Dark ruby brown in color. Lots of malts, more brown sugar and a touch of smoke. Smooth and creamy with a touch of zippy tartness at the back end of the swallow. Easy drinking. Finish is sweet and slightly bitter. A good brew but I would not classify this as a very good dopplebock. Good drinking brew anyway. Thanks to robertsrealty for this brew. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 10, 2007 Pours a lightish brown color, clear with nice red tones when held to the light. About half an inch of nearly white suds - but no lacing. Mild caramel maltiness in the nose. Sweetish beer with some caramel and some honeymalt, I don’t detect any hopping. Body definately on the light side for a doppelbock. Soft carbonation, smooth drinking, and a carmelly flavor in the aftertaste.
Not a bad beer, but not a doppelbock. Call it a regular old bock and I’d be more inclined to agree. CharlesDarwin (1846), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA

I’m fairly inmpressed with this brew, despite what others have said. The aroma is a bit spicy and that continues on the palate. The flavor is overbearingly of raw cane sugar, but for some reason it’s not distracting here.
