7/31/2007: Viking J.S. Bock is a "Premium Helles Bock". It is the color of unfiltered honey and has a dense light beige head. The aroma is strong and contains caramel malt, some citrusy hops, and hints of butter and alcohol. The flavor is confusing and disappointing. The maltiness is fruity and slightly caramel followed by a sour bitterness. There is an interesting peach/apricot aftertaste which is the only decent thing about this beer, but not really appropriate for the style. The body and palate are average. Overall this beer reminds me of a poor Amber Ale. I don’t really care for it very much, but at least it is [marginally] better than the <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/viking-brewing-m Brewing Mørketid...

12 oz bottle from buckybeer. Thanks Mark! Rating #38 for this beer...

Thanks to buckybeer for the bottle. Hazy orange with just a thin wisp of bubbles. Aroma of caramel, butterscotch and earth. Taste is mostly caramel sweet, with the butterscotch and a touch of hops. Sticky and rich. Medium bodied. It kind of grows on you.

12 ounce bottle. Shaker glass. Amber with a small beige head. Aroma was malt and vinegar. Yes vinegar. Taste was roast malt and caramel with a touch of vinegar and hops. Actually this one was a lot better than I expected given my first impression from the aroma.

Pours a darkish amber with a small head. Aroma is candied light malts, yeasts, fermented fruits. Flavor is sugary and quite flavorable. As with all Viking brews there buttery hints. Candied malts, light spice and a light nuttiness. Mouthfeel is a tad on the watery side but still pretty good.

Picked up a single bottle at the Fiddlers Inn in downtown Dallas, WI. Straight across the street from the Viking brewery. Pours a hazy dark amber brew with a white head. Dissolves quickly and leaves behind a nice lacing. Aroma contains some grassy scents, stale citrus, vanilla, grape brandy, and a touch of sour apples. Taste is a little bit semi-sweet with a citrus after taste. A little sweet for a dunkler bock. It has character more like a Heller Bock. Bottle was a little on the cold side and from a cooler rack close to fluorescent lighting.

Cloudy brown pour with almost no head. Carmel and a sourness that shouldn’t be there on the nose. Sour apple and caramel on the body with some malt. Thanks to Skyview for sharing.

Nice dark amber color, small off white head that faded quickly leaving little behind. The aroma was Lightly malty with a mild roasty side some hints of fruit and caramel. The flavor was pleasant but mild, malty and somewhat roasty with a decent but light caramel and a slight hint of fruit in there as well. The hops are there but very mild with maybe just a slight hint of alcohol in the end.Very smooth and easy to drink brew,it could use a might more alcohol IMO but over all it does quite well.
