Pear, cinnamon, light spice all on the nose. Light body with dry finish and blandness throughout. Cinnamon, pear, apple, light malt but rather bland other than the overwhelming spice component. More and more I’ve become disenchanted with this brewery. This all in all seems to light and has a cidery aspect that makes me feel that it’s tainted. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Another roll of the craps with a Viking bomber...
Pours a pale, muddy yellow, with a slight wisp of a head.
Aroma: huh? ugh! wha? part honey, part lemon, a good chunk wet paper and Johnson Brothers cough drops...mighty peculiar. I catch a whiff of pumpkin-type spices late into the sniff, cinnamon, paprika, clove...
Taste: very little...flatness, emptiness, a void, where taste has gone to die...oh, but am I being fair? Maybe not...I’ll wait a while, and see if it improves...so far, still, this brew is laying dead without a proper burial.I’m wondering whether it’s a lager or an ale, for it’s giving no clear signs of either, until I see that the label calls it "malt beverage brewed with spices."
Well, that may be so. the spices are there, but so meek as to be neglible, and the body of the brew possesses so little character, that I can’t see the reason for it’s existence.
Truth be told, it’s not horrible, but that’s no excuse, now, is it?
They should be able to do better, to create a fuller-flavored, rich and tasty spiced brew, and I wish they would.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2004 Bottle: Hazed pale yellow hue with small frothy head. The aroma is lemon and orange zest with a touch of apple peel too. Aromatic hops and funky yeast esters in addition to corriander makes this almost come off as a Saison on the nose. The taste is spicy and yeasty with a solid pale malt background. The mild bitterness and sublime citrus tones addes to the wonderful smooth balance. I really liked this beer, it has good depth of palate without going over the top. Quite drinkable and one I will try again. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA

Flowery, candi sugar and spicy finish from a very sweet malty brew. A bit flat, but tasty. jaymobrown (1356), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Had a pull between a sweet and sour flavors. Some spices, white pepper in there too. JK (2958), Richfield, Minnesota, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2003 Pale golden color with a frothy white head. Lightly sweet malt and strong ginger aroma. Body has a thin sweetness, covered by a tart spiced ginger palate. Some citrusy sourness is also evident. Overall, a different spiced lager and quite drinkable too. Thanks JPDIPSO!
