Commercial Description:
Mjød was the first Bracket produced in the US. It is a specialized beverage unlike any other. It is a honey based fermented beverage that Viking has hand-crafted to capture the essence of Mead.

[Bottle, thanks Skyview] Pours amber with a very small white head. Aroma and taste are light green apple and honey. Thin. The first bracket that I have had, and I didn’t care for it at all. Needs to be thicker and the taste was too weak.

Picked up a single 22-oz bomber directly from the Viking Brewing Company in Dallas, Wisconsin. Pours a clear caramel amber brew with a fast dissolving white head that dissipates clean with no ring or film top. Aroma of tart apple, a touch of honey, flowery hops, and some tart pear. Taste is light bodied, very little carbonation with a tart flavor of apples, yeast and some sweet honey. Finish is light a slightly watery with a tart apple and honey flavor. A good drinker for a brackett.

This beer poured a light amber with a massive amount of white head. Honey and apple in the aroma. The honey and apple comes through clearly in the body with an acidic aftertaste.

It pours a clear and fizzy orange brown, with half an inch of white head. The foam reduces rapidly to just a ring, though bubbles still continue to rise to the surface at a decent clip. Nice dark honey and some light caramel malt in the aroma. A pleasant, sweet grape and honey flavor initially, but this is short lived. The grape (white wine) lingers a while but it fades to almost nothing but a powdered sugar sweetness. The Mjod is almost flat in the finish. And it looked so nicely carbonated, too. This one starts off with much promise, but then leaves me wanting something more

12 oz bottle (Chicones in Hudson, WI, October 2006) consumed from a Chouffe tulip at cellar temperature. Perhaps I should have chilled this to near-freezing before popping the cap: the huge hiss was followed immediately by a foamy eruption all over my countertop though I managed to get the bottle over the glass quickly enough to save most of it....the enormous head subsides quickly, foaming furiously all the while and the bronze body is full of bubbles....aroma of honey and perhaps a hint of bourbon, hints of apricot....body mostly sweet and moderately alcoholic, thankfully not infected to the taste at all though it’s not all that exciting, sour cherries and apples blending somewhat successfully with rustic grainy honey, too much carbonation and a bit of unwelcome smoky/burnt note....it’s interesting but at this point I’ve had better braggots.

Dark red/amber, very dark for a mead. A little stinging in the palate, with a sweet front. Some grape among the honey. Tacky dry finish.

(22oz bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of honey, Welch’s grape juice, and melon. Flavor of honey with a fruit-like sourness (possibly some grape).

Bottle. Nose-honey, grape, cola. Body-red/amber with a thin film of bubbles. Taste-herbal honey, thin, tea, light mead. Good flavor, but overall thin and unimpressive.
