| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 7/20 | May 10, 2006 12 oz bottle. Poured an ugly medium amber with lots of sediment and no semblance of head. Nose was odd for an IPA... sure there was some caramel and a little toffee for the malt backing... but the only hops that I picked up were of veggie mash and perfume. Flavor had about the same stuff, with nothing coming across as enjoyable. Flat feel on the palate, grainy middle, and sticky/cloying finish. Some random bitterness showed up at the finish. Hard to drink and unpleasant. JPDIPSO (4935), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Apr 17, 2006 Lightly hazed light copper color. Color the same as the last IPA I had. Moderate dark cream colored head. Some decent lace. Mild barnyard and herb aroma. Lilac and perfume flavors start the mix. Some mild licorice and lilac flavor along with some baby powder seems to seep in. A nutty brown ale type finish and along with a dry nut finish. Some what fizzy, with a light oil feel. Mild burn on the tongue in the finish. a Light burnt flavor in the linger. A lot going on, but nothing all that pleasing. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 7/20 | Jan 22, 2006 12 oz bottle, from Blue Max in Burnsville, MN (Dec 2005). Almost no head on this one, a still, rather syrupy-looking dark amber brew....faint sprucy hops in a caramel cloud inhabit the simple aroma, though a bit of orange marmalade creeps in for some interest....body is cloyingly sweet, Dr. Pepper-like in its odd dishwater-licorice-citrusy character, hops seem old and broken, too tired to help balance out the sugariness, and they receive no help in the form of carbonation either....flat and listless as an unstoned stoner....I won’t be finishing this. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 16, 2006 picked this up at Blue Max. color is bronze/amber, head is off-white and not particularly impressive. aroma is a bit caramelly, and unripe navel orange. flavor is somewhat earthy, plasticy with faint citrus notes and a burnt sugar/caramel finish. not impressive...just pinpointed a strong aroma that was escaping me..it is the smell of raw pumpkin as it is scooped out (not the spicy pumpkin pie aroma)...i think it may be a factor of oxidation..not sure. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Nov 26, 2005 Pours flat with a few large bubbles, amber/bronze color. Mild vegetal aroma with no flavor except maybe some thin, musty leaves. Bland, flat palate. Not an enjoyable IPA. I’ve tried a lot of beers from Viking, and their best beers have me still trying more in the hopes that some of them will rise to that level, but a lot of the beers do seem plagued by similar problems--sometimes butterscotch, sometimes great thinness, sometimes green apple. | 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Nov 26, 2005 Bottle. Very flat looking with no head. Nose-grassy cereal with no hops. Where are the hops? I am pretty sure that to be called an IPA, you have to be able to detect hops. Nothing. A true drainpour. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 23, 2005 Thanks to hopdog for this...
Appears a light hazy orange with spotty lacing left behind by an average head.
Smell is tea like with some weak hops and biscuits coming through.
Taste is slightly sour with more earthy tastes and a mild tea like hopness.
Mouthfeel is of slight hops with the same mild sourness beating out the bitters and sweets.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 22, 2005 12oz bottle acquired in trade with robertsreality (thanks!). Poured a medium and hazy (hazier as I got to the bottom of the bottle) amber with a very small sized off white head. Leafy aromas with caramel, tea and wet leaves. Tastes were harder to pick out - tea, caramel and citrus. Lighter tastes and bordering on watery. Thinner body. Definitely not your typical USA IPA.
