Appearance: Finally, a Viking brew with a semi-lasting head! Tan head. Bubbly. So-so lacing. Opaque brown/red color. Aroma: Roasted malt, wheat, a little weak. Flavor is roasted malt, dark fruits, whole kernel wheat, some sort of milk-like sugars. Grassyness. This sucker’s tasty. Palate is lactose sweetness, smooth moderate mouthfeel. Overall, this one’s off the beaten path of wheat beers (kinda artistic like New Glarus’ Black Wheat). Very original. A MUST try. So far, I’m wondering if I got a better part of the batch or a different batch than other people got. I thought this one is worthy... szkot (100), Minnesota, USA

Aroma is of toffee and dark fruits. This beer is full of toffee and (light) coffee flavors. Tastes slightly honeyed to me. Not much hop character. I like this beer quite a bit. jimmyh221 (157), Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, USA

This has all the makeup of a yeast experiment--heck, you might even call this one a cherry lambic. I think if they did that it might get wider applause. Indeed, there are some nice qualities--big lacing off-white head, rich deep red body. The aroma is candy with a hint of cocoa powder, but the flavor is cherry with a cough syrup richness, though not too sweet for my tastes. The sour/tart dimension is strong and the carbonation keeps it alive in the mouth, though the flavor is a bit thin: it is more the sensibility of tart rather than the direct sensation of flavor that drives this. Still, it’s drinkable and if given a different style it might be moderately appreciated. JK (2966), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2005 Good aroma. Honey, maple syrup, caramel. Brown with a small head. Very dark orange. Flavor of malt. Somewhat sweet; not as sweet as I like and expect for the style. Thin. Finish is somewhat sweet also, but light, bitter hops coming through as the beer warms. Also gets sweeter and richer. BDR (2168), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Thankfully this batch of Viking brews I picked up in Hudson Last fall (old notebook rating) was entirely on. Faint wheat and strong caramel on the nose with a sweet thick body. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Sep 27, 2006 Cloudy brown color, with an off white, tannish head that had a decent hang time and managed to leave a bit of a lace behind. The aroma was wheat with a bit of some caramel, maybe a slight showing of fruit. The flavor was wheaty with some slight caramel hints some fruit maybe citrus and a bit of a tangy side in the beginning. Not exactly an outstanding brew but it does manage to come off as being very drinkable and smooth. It’s worth having a few more. Smells like Wheaties with a peanut-oil touch. The nuttyness takes a front seat in the flavor while yeasty wheat bread and apricot come along for the ride. Light hoppy bitterness and oxidation in the finish. A nice beer, the fruit and nuts are tasty.
