| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 10, 2005 Appearance: Dark black. Caramel head. Aroma: Stong, confusing aroma. Never have I been confused like this before. Little comes to mind. Green coffee (non-roasted). Milk. Palate: Medium, oily? Flavor: Milk, bitter, coffee, very strong. Peaty? Props to DavidP. I’d have to try this again to see if it’s better outside of a tasting... CaptainCougar (5522), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 10, 2005 Shared at the Tosa Tasting courtesy of DavidP: Oily and opaque with a thin off-white head. Strange fresh herbal weedy aroma with a touch of tartness and lactose mustiness. Body is grassy and thin with floral flavor turning more caramel malty and earthy toward the finish. Lactose and dark chocolate linger. An interesting brew but it could use some more balance and be more true to style. Silphium (2144), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2005 Brought to MrFacto’s ’Tosa tasting by DavidP. Deep chestnut brown body with red highlights, thin tan head. Somewhat buttery aroma with coffee beans and roasted malts. Strange flavor profile, opening with unexpected grassy, floral hops imparting an unusual herbal character to the roasted malts, coffee, and cocoa. Just a touch of butter showed in the flavor as well as the aroma. Rather thin-bodied with tight carbonation. An interesting twist on the style. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Dec 17, 2004 Black color...opaque, with a small beige head. The aroma was full-on coffe with a definite lactic sourness. The flavor was quite sour...mild sweetness, and a bitter coffe tone. The feel was very thin and slightly watery...medium dry finish. Pretty good. Thanks Mike! SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 16, 2004 Bottle - many thanks to badgerben. Pours dark brown, virtually no head and opaque. Aroma is toasty, oaty, floral hops, souring milk, chocolate and coffee. Roasty chocolate and bitter coffe in the flavor. Light to medium body, oat smoothness but a little watery. Overall, enjoyable and unique porter. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 15, 2004 Bottle: Nearly opaque with reddish tint, small but lasting frothy tan head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of lactic sourness, plum, pumpernickel bread, caramel, mocha, coffee, aromatic hops, and light white pepper. The taste twangy with the same lactic notes apperaing on the palate along with a noticeable oat and chocolate malt character. Gets a bit fruity in the midsection and finishes with a bitter and coffee nature. The feel is weak as is often the case with many porters. Overall I would say this is an above average brew and worthy of a try. A great lead into a Java Stout.
