Flavor combines the dark chocolate with some ashen, burnt elements. Didn’t work for me. Palate is smooth, but thin, especially for a dark beer. esjaygee (1519), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, milk sugar – mostly sweet, like a sweet milk stout. Taste of roasted and dark malts, chocolate, milk sugar and sweet malt. Medium mouth feel with low bitterness. The best I’ve had from Viking to date. IlanMan (817), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 10, 2008 Pours a deep brown with a small creamy brown head. Aroma is moderately sweet, big coffee notes, milk chocolate, some roast and light oatmeal. Flavor is chocolate, less coffee than the nose and roast. Medium body, creamy texture. A so so Porter, I ve come to expect a lot more from Wisconsin brewers. ChainGangGuy (2568), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Appearance: Pours an opaque, black body with a tiny, tan-colored head.
Smell: Roast and dark chocolate on the nose with a slight herbal, earthy note.
Taste: A bit of roast and coffee with some lightly sweetish dark chocolate hints. Earthy, roasty bitterness. Sweetened black coffee on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: Acceptable, but thin and wholly unremarkable. Thanks, but no thanks. jbuzz (661), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

I had assumed this was going to be a "big" beer, but at 4.5% a pleasant surprise it is. Big and bold in flavor, with a mild smooth finish. Sweet cocoa aroma. Opaque black-brown color with a rusty orange quickly diminished head. Wow. The chocolate and roasted malts come through so perfectly. This is one of the best Porters I’ve had, a style I am quite fond of.
