Hunsell (398), Amsterdam, Netherlands Apr 22, 2008 Very muddy brown beer with huge head. Sweet aroma of dried fruit, nuts, caramel and malts. Very malty taste, sweet caramel, chestnut and some dark fruits. Alcoholic. Big beer, a bit rough but quite nice.
thebeertourist (1889), Oslo, Norway Jan 25, 2008 Bottle. Hazy bronze with a big yellowish head. Mostly fruity aroma, but also some yeastiness. Complex. Potent fruity flavours, but sweetness prevails. Quite sirupy texture. Noticeable alcohol. Fizzy. Good as always from Volendam. BeerBiker (1209), Odense, Denmark Sep 18, 2007 [Sampled in 2005, present from Den Blå Øl.] Bombing head and sediments like never before ...or after. Heavy notes of dried fruits, wood, raisins, sweet nuts, some chocolate, weak alcohol, very complex, 7 diff. malts, spices. Great. Must try more brew from this brewery. Ungstrup (11378), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 23, 2005 [I bought my bottle in 2003 and am drinking it the month it expires December 2005] It was very lively when opened. A deep red beer with a slight sediment hanging in the beer and with a thick long lasting brown head. The aroma is powerful with notes of wood, over ripe fruits, prunes, and raisins. The flavor is sweet and very nice with strong notes of over ripe fruit - especially peaches, but also prunes and raisins - almost like a Madeira, with the alcohol lying in the background. The end is very complex with notes of cloves, oranges, and nuts on a woody background. This goes right up there among my favorite Dutch beers. caesar (2573), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands May 30, 2004 Upon opening the 75 cl bottle, the beer gushes out and won’t stop. So beware and be quick with the pouring! Very cloudy brown color, huge off-white head. Aroma is roasted and chocolat malts, dried fruit such as prune and walnut, spices like nutmeg. Taste is very malty (they used 7 different malt ingredients), soft but alcoholic, quite complex. Full palate, slightly alcoholic. Very nice beer by a very nice brewery.
