As Voodoo Got Gas? served on nitro in a Samuel Adams lager glass. Clear gold with a big, dense, creamy nitro induced head. I’m talking over 3 inches of lasting head here. Both the smell and flavor are almost all hops. Grapefruit zest, pine, peach, and a touch of caramel. Lasting pithy bitterness. Though it was served on nitro it had a touch of prickly carbonation but overall it had a smooth, thick, creamy mouthfeel. Very yummy and I would like to compare it to the bottled version.

Amber color with a tall white head. Minimal aroma of pine and caramel. Weak flavor as well of hops, pine, and caramel. On nitro and missing something.

Nitro at Capone’s. Opaque bright orange, frothy white head. Pine and caramel play second fiddle to the heavy citrus, mainly orange, in the nose. Bitter flavor, very fresh pine and some biscuit and orange and tangerine as well. Thick, frothy mouth. The fresh fruit is the highlight, makes this the best Voodoo I’ve had yet.

On Nitro at Capone’s on 8/15/09 as Voodoo Got Gas? IPA. Nice medium yellow, white frothy nitro head. Not much aroma, but just a touch of pine and floralness. As you taste, the nitro hides a bit, but out of that smoothness evolves an incredibly pleasant slow bitterness. Incredibly smooth, leaving a nice finish.

On Nitro at Capone’s. Poured a medium golden/yellow color with a larger sized, frothy white head. Aromas of pine, fruity hoppiness, and some spiciness. Tastes of the same fruitiness, spicy finish, and floral hops. Nice lacing left on the glass.

Draft and on Nitro at Craft. The pour is turbid dark straw with fluffy 3-finger white head that leaves copious lace. The nose is much like pineapple and orange juice, with resiny hops, some peppery notes, and malt. Tastes very hoppy, very tropical fruity, with heavy tangerine, pineapple, and white peppercorn flavors, and a super smooth, rich finish. Spare malt, too, so it is not malt light at all. A true masterpiece, and the best beer Voodoo has produced yet.

Bottle from Capone’s. Turbid deep coppery pour with 1-finger off-white head and clingy lace sheets all over the glass. Heavy hops, tropical fruit, and caramel malt in the flavor, with some funky feety notes in the smell and taste. The taste is earthy hoppy, caramel malty, with tropical fruit. Nice layer of sediment at the bottom of this one.

Bottle (yellow cap... don’t know if that will be important information or not). (I moved this rating over after understanding the cap system.) Murky orange body... medium to small head that laces a bit as it quickly fades. Aromas are thick of hops... grapefruit, pineapple and caramel. We’re off to a good start. Flavor is a little undisciplined. Piney/grapefruity hops flavor seems to be a bit adrift without a good malt anchor. There is some sweetness there to balance a little, but there isn’t the grain body that would dampen the blow. Still, following the first sip, I find that things are balancing more. (It could be that my poor little tastebuds have all headed out for the night or are lying dead in a pile somewhere.) I’m really not sure quite what to make of this other than that Voodoo’s pricing is WAY high.
