| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer takes all of the classic visual cues of a brown ale: deep dark brown color, nice light-tan head. Carbonation is slightly high for the style, but not totally inappropriate. The nose gives hints of American hops, but nothing extremely citrusy or piney; perhaps its the Northern Brewer shining through. The ashy/dark chocolately character of roasted malt comes through, as well. The palate begins with that same ashy character, and has the trademark bitterness of an American brown, but lacks any sort of balancing malt backbone. I found myself repeatedly searching in vain for some caramel or toffee notes to round out the flavors. Also present was a very odd note toward the end of the palate to the finish. It almost seemed like a cola-like note. Overall, a touch disappointing, but a servicable American brown. kramer (2471), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 28, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy beige head that had good retention. Really delicious nutty and lightly roasted nose with some coffee and light hops. Lots of depth to the nose. Nice thick nutty flavor, maybe a little grainy with some astringency, but better too much going on than for it to be too watery. Finishes with a touch of leafy hops. Medium bodied with a little clinginess on the back end. Lingering huskiness and moderate fizzy carbonation. OK, but clearly not the best. At least it was flavorful and not watery. mkade8883 (52), Goleta, California, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Oct 12, 2009 Opaque brown liquid with tan head. Some hops and chocochoco in aroma, but mostly an odd smell. Flavor is sharp brown (not sure how else to describe). Not so great. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

This smells like a good Brown Ale: roasty with some coffee notes. Flavors include coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. It has a medium to medium-full body and is very smooth. Overall this is a very good Brown Ale.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2009 Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with red highlights and a huge tan head. The aroma was sweet chocolate syrup and fruity hops. The flavor was bitter, dry and roasty with fruity hops noticable and notes of dry chocolate. The finish was long, dry, roasty and chocolatey. Moderately thick. Pretty good. blankboy (3214), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 12, 2009 My bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, GregClow & tupalev. Pours a very deep dark ruby with an average size diminishing tan head. Decent roasty aroma along with nuts and chocolate. Flavour: Nice and roasty, some coffee, light chocolate, nuts and light green hops in the finish. A pleasant surprise, I liked this a lot. hopscotch (5507), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 30, 2009 Bottle… Pours clear and is a very dark burnt orange with a small, fizzy, off-white head. The nose delivers very nice dark chocolate, caramel and espresso notes intertwined with decadent toasted almonds and cashews. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with kicked-back carbonation. Flavor is a touch thin; otherwise, it offers sticky-sweet, singed, caramelized essences of praline, mocha and maple syrup. Lightly bitter, cocoa finish. Underrated, I think. Kudos to dmschefke for providing the bottle! checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA

The aroma was toasted malts and lumber. The flavor was chocolate, hops, nuts, malts, and caramel. Overall, not the best brown ale, but drinkable.
