From bottle. Light chocolate and caramel malt with decent sweetness and light hoppy nose. Quite a bit of metallic tinge and some carbonic gaseousness. A bit of dusty grain. Dark, dark brown clear with a huge foamy light tan lacing head. I didn’t get a gusher, but it definitely has quite a high level of carbonation. Medium body with heavy carbonation - a little bit of carbonic burn. Starts with decent caramel and chocolate sweetness, toasted grain and neutral fruit. Carbonic acidity and bitter coffee grounds, ending with a medium dry hop quality. Nice bittering with a sweet nutty bitter after.

Aug 10, 2008 Updated: Aug 18, 200822 oz bomber from EZ Liquors. Okay so this is not the most interesting or complicated style out there but this beer was very nicely done. Pours a deep brown with a good size fluffy beige head. Aroma was on the weak side for the big roasty flavor that follwed. Big roasty flavor with notes of chocolate, nuts, brown bread and towards the end some very slight dark fruit(cherry or prune). This one is underrated and worth trying.

does not count  Jul 8, 2008 I had this on draft in October 2007 at the Red Star Brewfest. I met the owner/brewers and tried all their beers. This one was my favorite. I had multiple samples. It was an all you can drink affair, of course.
As a brown ale fan, it’s hard to find a "big" brown ale. Newcastle is watery and muted. Brooklyn is not bad and a step up, but I wanted more. This is it.

Jul 6, 2008 Dark opaque brown with big dimpled browninsh head. Malty chocolate aroma smells just as it tastes, only maltier and more chocolatey with rich pruney notes. Very roasty with fruity hop bittereness. Way over the top, without any kind of subtlety. Excessive use of dark specialty malts makes this a bit too cloying to drink a lot of. Seems to be around 8% abv If I had to guess. $6/22oz
Dorwart (1598), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
Jul 5, 2008 Large brown head of varying sized bubbles. Nice and creamy on top. Aroma loaded with roasted grains, a hint of coffee, figs and some chocolate covered cherries. Color is a very dark mahagony brown. Lively in the mouth. Medium bodied with lots of roasted grains again, more bitter dark chocolate and some herbal notes late swallow. Light floral hops presence. Finishes roasty and dry and a little bitter. A very good brown ale.
rudolf (1547), Buffalo, New York, USA
Jun 12, 2008 Goodbar Beer Club. Rich brown, ruby light shines through. Nose is coffee & chocolate cherries, wood. Flavor is more of that chocolate/cherry, toffee, aspects of a big imperial stout but without the huge body or burnt aspect. Finish is more chocolate, cherry, raisin, wood. Really well done hops in the finish.
