Commercial Description:

NOTE: Ratings for the cask version should NOT be entered here; it has a separate listing.
Wadworth have been brewing 6X in their Devizes brewery for over 80 years. This delightful copper-coloured beer has a malty, fruity nose with a restrained hop character. The same characteristics emerge on the palate but with more intensity, leading to a lingering malty finish. The beer is full bodied and distinctive but with a high drinkability, ensuring its position as one of the South of England’s most requested beers.
6X is brewed from 93% pale malt, 4% crystal malt and 3% cane sugar. The bitterness units of 22-24 are obtained from Fuggles hops (85% of total) in the copper and Goldings hops (15%) on the hop back plates. Colour rating is 28.

Pours an amber brown with a off white head that’s mildly sticky and some light carbonation. Gives a nice deep fruit aroma that is well balanced by earthy hops. The taste is very well balanced all the way through with rich malt, deep fruits, and a light hop note on the finish.

Bottled. An amber beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel and nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, leading to a lightly bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

50cl dark glass bottle. Copper colour, medium, fairly stable soapy white head. Intense aroma of sweet fruit and caramel. Sweet, fruity malts dominate the taste at first, with a touch of raisins. After that, a strong bitterness of roasted malt sets in, and the finish is dry and hoppy. Medium-bodied ale with smooth, but not oily mouth feel. Less "in-your.face" bitter than some other brews (like e.g. St Peter’s Best Bitter), but a strong, smoky presence in the taste ensures a certain gravity and "integrity", so to speak. Really nice ale.

Bottled version. Brown coloured beer with no carbonation and a small off-white head. Stronger malty roasted aroma with some caramel touches. Full creamy palate and a finish with strong malty bitter touches. Dry ending. A rather special bitter.
