Commercial Description:
Captain Curry was one of the legendary steamboat captains on Seneca Lake. This London-style copper-colored ale is bitter, as the name suggests, yet well balanced by a rich malt character. Goldings hops from the East Kent region in Britain lend it a soft floral aroma. This brew would have been just the style a steamboat captain would enjoy.

Pass the biscuits, we’ve got butter,we’ve got butter.a good esb, I was surprised, pleasant buttery taste in this beer, I just like to joke about it.Nice malt and hop balance, casually assertive.

Beer poured from the bottle with a small head and was a very dark copper color. It did have a slightly smokey nose. Had a slight malty/wine taste with a slightly hoppy finish. Not your usual ESB, but it was good none the less.

Let me first say, I had this sitting at cellar temp, maybe slightly warmer, popped the cap and I had a friggin explosion 65-70% of the beer was lost. Inexcusable. For the beer, Cloudy, copper/orange. Nice head and lace. Nose of minerals, fruity yeast, malt and others. Lightish medium bodied, heady, earthy malt character, subtle hopping but noticeable, a nicely balanced and drinkable ESB, too bad I couldnt enjoy the whole bottle. Will have to give another go.

Massive head. Someone told me this brewery won some GABF awards this year, so I snagged some of their brews here in NYC. Taste: not really hopped at all. Odd. Not even in the aftertaste. Reminds me of the misnamed ’Welsh ESB’ (which is terrific, by the way). More malty than hoppy, and nice to drink. Perhaps a bit thin?

Sort of a sour (ringwood) aroma. Decent body with a good bitter/malt balance. A fairly decent ESB

By far this brewery’s best offering. A nice dark amber but with little head and an aroma lacking in distinct character. Descent hop bitterness but nothing in the way of strong malt body. Maybe this company is to involved in wine to really become a great brewery. I went there and they don’t even offer tours!

Chestnut brown, big airy head. Dry, spicy, medium bodied, aromatic hoppiness.

Bitters and strong ales along with the IPA’s have become a favorite. Nice nose, big finish, quite robust in its own right.
