Commercial Description:
From the 1700s through the early 1900s steamboats were used to transport people and produce the length of Seneca Lake. If there were passengers at a dock a white flag was flown during the day and a red flag in the evening. Amber Lager is a malty, full-bodied Vienna style lager. Its strong malt flavor and aroma arise from generous amounts of Vienna and Caramel malts, complimented by a delicate aroma of Tettnang and Hallertau hops. Wagner Brewing Company is pleased to announce that we received an award for excellence for Wagner Valley Dockside Amber Lager.

I detect apples, dark fruits and raisin in this very smooth well balanced beer. I had it at the brewery on tap. The aroma seems a bit weak and the flavor isn’t very pronounced-it just exists to appeal. The malty quotient here was appealing I have to say.

served on tap at the brewery. Pours a dark amber brown color with absolutely no head. Does look kinda like soda. Flavor is caramel malts, slightly roasted nut and bitter hop undertone. Overall, decent but not my favorite.

Cola - colored with a thick tan head. The thick head also had very nice retention. Malty aroma, caramel and raisins in the palate. This is a smooth creamy palate. A very nice vienna.

Feb. 2, 2006; 12 oz. bottle.

Pretty good for the style which, admittedly, is not my favorite -- being just *too* malty-sweet for my hop-craving palate; trying to rate accordingly. Reminiscent of the Sam Adams Octoberfest. Pleasant, candy-ish aroma and smooth, spicy mouthfeel. Have five more in the pack, and may re-rate after further review.

Thin, unpronounced aroma, with little but a touch of malt. Flavor had a nice rich chocolatiness as it warmed, but was otherwise pretty minimal. Easy drinker, nothing special.

Decidedly brown in colour with a medium amount of carbonation. It’s got a nutty / malty aroma with little hop influance. The caramel malt is the dominant flavor, along with some vienna and munich malts and some clean bitterness. It’s fairly average stuff. Thanks Lubiere.

12 oz bottle. Clear brownish orange, thin white head. Malty and nutty aroma, very clean. Malty Munich/carmel flavor. Very clean. Very drinkable and full of flavor for a light lager. True to the Vienna style, and well done.

Explodes out of bottle with a 5+ finger light brown head but fades quickly leaving only traces of lace. Murky brown/amber with a ton of chunky bits, ugliest beer I’ve seen in a while. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is raisin and yeast. Starts with sweet raisin & plum, there is a hint of yeast in the background, finishes smooth and is actually very drinkable. $1.00 for a 12 oz bottle from Hoosick Street Discount Bev. Troy, NY.
