Commercial Description:
From the 1700s through the early 1900s steamboats were used to transport people and produce the length of Seneca Lake. If there were passengers at a dock a white flag was flown during the day and a red flag in the evening. Amber Lager is a malty, full-bodied Vienna style lager. Its strong malt flavor and aroma arise from generous amounts of Vienna and Caramel malts, complimented by a delicate aroma of Tettnang and Hallertau hops. Wagner Brewing Company is pleased to announce that we received an award for excellence for Wagner Valley Dockside Amber Lager.

This is the ONE beer that this brewery does right, and boy have they gotten it right! It’s remarkably subtle in its combination of Hallertau/Tettnang with the delicious Vienna malts. No wonder they won an award. Fairly sweet with buttery malts, it’s as smooth as a baby’s bottom. Their other beers sure do suck though. This one-hit-wonder brewery has the one-hit thing in common with A Flock Of Seagulls, who I will be seeing in concert in two weeks.

This is a fairly tasty dark lager. Usually I am not a big fan of lagers, but this is malty and sweet with a nice bitter balance. Excellent aroma and very carbonated, this is a good beer.

Great malt and hop floral nose. Good head and lace, an all round good beer.

Transparent caramel color. Creamy off white edge head. Slow rising tiny bubbled carbonation. Solid Vienna malt aroma, clean water and spicy hops. Toasty and mellow with a smooth feel to it. Gentle malt sweetness. Clean, quenching light body. Long Vienna malt aftertaste and a building German hop balance. Very fresh tasting. Finishes richer with a more noticeable caramel topping. Tasty.

Clear, light amber color with particles throughout. Thin head and lace. Nose of vienna malt, caramel, minerals, spicy hops and others. Light to medium bodied, lots of carb bite, takes away from smoothness a bit. Vienna malts are in full affect, toast and caramelized. The tettnags really make their mark and seem a little mightier then the hallertau’s in this particular brew. Mineral notes are strong throughout, I think its what Venom described as clean water. Flavors linger long after finish. A fresh and damn tasty brew that would benifit from less carbonation IMHO.

12oz bottle. Pours a radiant, cola-brown color with the slightest reddish tinge; light tan head with patchy lacing. Toasty malts and caramel in the aroma; a hint of citrus. This tastes wonderful: medium-to-full mouthfeel, showing plenty of cola and a creamy nuttiness; lively carbonation, with a touch of citrus and a near-perfect mouthfeel; terribly drinkable, flavorful Vienna (probably my favorite of the few I’ve had). Medium, toasted malt and nutty finish. I could drink this all day.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with some almost maroon highlights. Medium beige head that lingers for a bit. Nose of burnt malts and caramel. Flavor is highly malty and darkly sweet. Notes of brown sugar, caramel and hazlenuts. Some bitterness and hop kick. Nice, roasted malt aftertaste with some sticky sweetness. Pretty solid.

12 oz bottle. Clear brownish orange, thin white head. Malty and nutty aroma, very clean. Malty Munich/carmel flavor. Very clean. Very drinkable and full of flavor for a light lager. True to the Vienna style, and well done.
