Dry cardboard and earthy malty aroma with a touch of lager yeast. Sweet caramel malt and German lager yeasty body. A nice doppelbock, but needs to work on its aroma. Aroma of big fruit, malt, slight licorice and prunes. Tastes of malt, fruit, with very little carbonation. This one tasted flat and somewhat bland. Decent, but not elite. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2004 This bottle exploded on me on opening, and while I could slurp some up, not every drop was salvagable, though it gave me an idea what to expect.
Appearance: dark crimson color, nearly caramel in hue, with, a fully carbonated, viscerally effervescent head, cream-soda like in color.
Aroma: nutty, and cola-ish, rich and fruity.
Taste: again, full, even too-full carbonation, very effervescent, lightly fruity on the tongue, loaded with toffee and caramel flavors, a rich, tasty, mess of darkly sweet flavors
Medium bodied, medium-finish, everything is just so, except that the flavor remains too cola-ish, a flavor that the doppelbock needn’t cozy up to, just for comfort, and the malt never quits either, feels lush and rich in the mouth.
A nice little dopplebock. waveman352 (178), Walden, New York, USA

Pored a redish brown color with a medium off white head. very malty and thich with deep chocolate tastes. A bitter finish but very good. Body stays until the end and so do flavors. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 10, 2004 Crimsons and browns, thin creamy off white head. Nose had notes of chocolate, dried cherry and plum, some yeastiness, with a hint of caramel. Very malty, yet decently balanced with a slight hop bitterness rounding this out. Medium bodied, but thin in the mouth, light carbonation, sweet chocolate cherry malt finish. Nothing to write home about....

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 4, 2004 Bottle pours a brownish/red, ruby if you will, small fizzly off-white head that quickly dissipates, either very little or no carbonation, and virtually no lacing. Nice aroma of malts and caramel. Slightly biscuity as well. Flavor is quite nice up front, malty, fairly sweet, with some caramel and minor dark pitted fruit. Medium body, but the mouthfeel is quite thin. Subtle alcohol notes on the finish, with some raisin/fig/date and malts as well. Not bad, but very thin and light for the style. Appearance wasn’t very good, but it smelled great, tasted great up front, but was lacking on the backend. Glad to have tried it tho. Thanks goes out to jah noth for the trade!

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 2, 2004 Sparkling clear, ruby lager. Smells like port and chocolate-covered cherries. Malty, vineous, lightly chocolatey flavor. Decently balanced for a doppelbock. Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, malty, slightly tangy finish. Thanks to Springslicker for the bottle.
