Bottle. Pours red brown with a beige head. The aroma has molasses, caramel and brown sugar. The flavor is bready/toasty malt, with caramel, molasses, candy sugar, and just a touch of hops. Very nice.

25 oz bottle, via BA beertruth. Pours a very dark brown, almost mahogany body with a one finger fizzy light brown head. The nose is intensly malty with lots of heavy toffee and some dark plum and alcohol. The flavor is even more intense than the aroma. Big heavy toffee malt with just a little oxidation on the finish. The alcohol makes itself known, but not overpowering. Mouthfeel is full bodied but not sticky or cloying at all, nicely warming on the finish. Moderate soft fizzy carbonation. Overall, quite good. A one trick pony for sure, but it’s a good trick. Malt overdose!

Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet dark caramely malts with some bready German yeast and fruity esters. Body starts rich and sweet with some good caramel flavor, dark fruits and brown sugar complexity. Finishes slightly thinner with some alcoholic warmth and chewy caramel. A true to style and fairly complex doppelbock.

750 mL bottle received via trade with jah noth. Pours dark brown and thick with an average, frothy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), light hops (flowers), average yeast (dough) with notes of prune, date, raisin, and brown sugar. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a sweet finish. Average duration, heavy sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.

750, capped. Thanks, GoldTwins! Pours a ruddy dark brown with a thick and suday tan head. A little scattered lace. Huge brown apple blast on the nose. Tart to the point of squinting. Green apples and raisins there as well. Medium body with some carb. Serious dark fruit and oxidation all over the mid-palate: sour green apples, raisins, and heavy oxidation rule the flavors. Short but seriously sour finish. Not sure if this one picked up a little extra cargo somewhere or if it’s just a victim of temperature mis-management, but the oxidation at the very least is pretty intense.

Poured a clear ruby color with a beige head. The aroma was of dark fruits and oxidized malt. The flavor was very fruity. Plump raisins, apples, and malty caramel. The beer had a lively mouth feel and a medium body.

750ml bottle via summer 07 Secret Santa (thanks!). Pours a dark brown with a small beige head. Nose is most malt with some fruity esters. Taste starts with some berries, plums, raisins, a little chocolate, and sends with some almonds. There is a bit of alcohol in the dry finish, but considering the high abv, it is not overbearing and definitely not hot. Body is medium, carbonation is moderate. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Could stand a bit more body and flavor, but isn’t bad.
