Commercial Description:
The Barrel Aged version of this brew, I was told this was aged for 9 months in oak and dry hopped. This is our biggest brew by far. This hop head delight is loaded with seven hop additions! The tongue tingling bitterness comes from Amarillo, Chinook and Ahtanum hops. A great malt background balances the bitterness for a complex flavor.

Amber brown with a small head. Aroma still has hops, pine and some faint wood not much bourbon. Flavor has more bourbon, not overdone, right amount of wood for the pine hops to still shine. Some vanilla and bourbon come through late.

Hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, pine, vanilla, bourbon, citrus, and toffee. Taste of citrus, pine, grass, vanilla, and bourbon in the finish.

22oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Flickr(http://www.flickr.com/photos/26049401@N0 Aroma billows out a sweet candied cherry and bourbon fruit. Some interesting pineapple, coconut, cherry bread and grasses move through. Sweet and intoxicating. Pours a very lightly hazed amber-orange, with a thin soapy white head. Flavor is immediately bourbon over plain beer. There’s IPA beneath this? I mostly get a bit of washed out bourbon and oak. Thin-bodied. Some faint, distant hops call, but there’s little to no real hop bitterness or flavor. A bit of old faded hop dusts perks up in the very end, but it’s too late for a show of celery seeds to make this interesting. In my opinion, I think the notion of barrel-aged anything hoppy is a bit absurd and pointless.

Bottle: The aroma consists of citrusy hops, vanilla, bourbon, and faint oak. It pours a transparent amber with a soapy white head. The flavor starts with a quick dose of citrus. Some spicy citrus hops come into play in the finish along with some moderate vanilla and some pretty strong bourbon. The bourbon is a little too strong for my tastes. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel.

2009 MiBGWF: Rich golden hue with a minimal head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of spicy and grassy high alpha hops, bourbon barrel (vanilla, oak, and alcohol), biscuity malts, and a hint of mineral water. The taste starts with a sharp hop bite followed quickly by a noticeable bourbon barrel snap. Additional characteristics were biscuit, mineral, salt and clove. The mouth feel is aggressive and sharp, very warming and metallic. Very good and the hops are not covered by the barrel. Not for the meek, well done Walldorff!
