Pours a very dark brown with an almost white head. The aroma is roasty, chocolate, lightly hopped and very sweet. The flavor is nice, but a little watery. Light to medium bodied, and on the sweet side. Not the best dunkel, but pretty enjoyable.

TAP: brown pour, nice off-white head. Aroma is caramel and dark fruit, taste is malty, sweet, bread, hints of fruit. Tasty stuff.

Another German gem! Had this in a can from the LCBO. Dark brown with an almond head, aroma is of toffee, chocolate and malts. Taste is a bit thin but it has lots of malt and some chocolate highlights. Very nice beer although there are better examples of dunkel to be found.

bottle thanks to bhensonb. poured a dark brown with a white-off white head. aroma was caramel, grains, chocolate, and a touch of coffee. flavor was coffee, dark roasts, and some coffee bitterness. body was almost medium with almost high carbonation.

Poured from bottle into Summit glass. Chestnut brown with moderate white head and nice lacing. Aroma of cherry, caramel, plum and metallic bitterness. Cherry, caramel, toast, and metal (although not bitter). Can’t find much else to say about it, which is why this is only average. Low carbonation with a light almost watery body. Decent but nothing special. Could use more body or more "something" to counter the average malt profile.

Red-brown, loose cola colored head that falls quickly. Aroma is metallic, caramel, toast, biscuit. Taste is sweet, but still some steel, caramel, light cocoa.

On tap @ Fins Rehoboth-Dark brown pour w/a moderate head. Sweet malt aroma. Flavors of roasted malt, Caramel, bread dough, & candied sugar w/a little spice. Smooth, easy drinking session brew, not real complex, but nice. Full malt finish.

So I had about a dozen different Dunkels fresh on tap in Germany but apparently I’ve never rated the style. Instead of rating from memory I bought the most accessible one. Pours a normal dark amber/brown color with a small off white head. Aroma shows fresh pilsner malts, light chocolate and crackers. Very malty. Flavor is smooth with just a hint of graham crackers. Very dry and light bodied, not a huge flavor packer. I actually liked this style when I had it from the source. This one doesn’t live up but it’s a style I could dig.
